Shopify might be worth considering, they have a pretty good POS system (http://shopify.com/pos), and probably more experience dealing with these sorts of shenanigans, plus you can get them on the phone.
I guess I'm part of the small minority who love Path. It's my favorite app, I use it almost every day. I use it strictly with my immediate family - my brothers, sister, their spouses and my parents. I barely have time for Twitter, I don't use Facebook, but I use Path. Their pitch about deeper connections and about being real and authentic rings true to how we use it. I'm quite disappointed to watch them flounder.
Looks like the primary new thing here is the ability to create orders on the phone, including the option to accept a credit card swipe. (Which is awesome.) Most everything else was part of previous versions of the mobile app.
As a Dad myself, probably about the age of your Dad, with a son about your age, I can tell you that as impressive as what he has accomplished in his career is -- I bet he'd say that having a son like you, and what you wrote, the way you feel, and your determination to follow his lead is his greatest accomplishment.
Garrett has earned a solid reputation with me in how he has run Sifter. I've been a customer on-and-off, and he's always treated me fairly and promptly, even when I was "churn." I agree the price feels a little stiff, but I see his argument about the value. If confidence in the money-back guarantee is all you need to pull the trigger, I wouldn't hesitate.
Note: I don't know Garrett, we're not friends, just wanted to add another voice.
It may not be the author's intention to imply this, and I'm glad he had a good experience, but it's worth mentioning that this is a single experience, and not necessarily evidence that some Facebook ad campaigns aren't being hit with false clicks.
On Vista64: made it through all install screens. No desktop shortcut (even though I asked for one), had to nav to install dir to find it. Ran uninstall and it only did a partial uninstall (I've still got a gunky folder in program files).
I definitely prefer the light later in the evenings (DST), I'd just like it to stay that way year-round. (i.e. let's stop the madness, but it would be a pity if we stuck with Standard Time year-round, we should stick with DST year-round).
Wow. Excited. After watching PintPay toy with my emotions, I'm glad someone did it up right. I hope they've got a viable model. The market is positively starving for something like this.
Nah. I don't know Jonathan, but I've followed him on Twitter for quite a while after reading his O'Reilly published book on iPhone web app dev. (I think he's also the guy who took over maintenance of jQTouch.) Anyway, watching the whole thing evolve on his Twitter stream, it sure seems sincere. "Suspected to be a viral marketing campaign" might be a more appropriate headline here.
Conspiracy theories are fun to think about, but too many things don't add up for this one. Thin evidence of it, a potentially anti-Starbucks agenda by coffeestrategies, the fact that Jonathan is a real live person with tons of professional credibility, and the fact that in order for it to be true, Jonathan would have had to pro-actively lie to all those of us who follow and trust him.
