It feels like they're really focusing on overstating how confusing and weird it is that an LLM can write code but not play games very well, rather than just explaining it.

Code is text. LLMs are text input/output machines.

Game input/output is not at all text.

LLMs can certainly reason about games with a simple/explicit enough domain (try a risk tournament where models can talk to each other between turns!)

Insofar as a truism isn't an endorsement.

Making people afraid you'll kill them seems like poor politics. Inevitably leads to shockingly wasteful wars.

Better things to do.

c.f. Iranian prime minister submits resignation citing IRGC takeover, because war exigencies. Nice one! USA! USA!

Is there any legitimate reason for adding a prompt injection attack to your codebase? Seems like by the same logic he could disavow 'script kiddies' who just want to run his project without reading the code and have it auto-nuke if not run with a special flag?

Would never use anything by a maintainer who adds malicious code or instructions to their codebase to attack less experienced users, same thing.

Nah. When an intelligent human makes a decision (say, someone who can get themselves hired at google), they're aware of the systemic effects of their behaviour.

Google is not a lawnmower. Google is people. And they hate you.

It's more like a company unaffiliated with the toll booth offering a better deal that lets you avoid the toll booth, pocketing all the money, and the road becoming unusable from lack of maintenance.

If they can just take it, why would they pay you for it?

You have to be informed that you're not allowed to be on the premises ("trespassed") and be allowed to leave before you can be charged with trespassing.

What's that? You're still using microsoft products? Guess that's your own fault.

I'm more thinking, the winning school sports team, a choir performing, etc. Things that would be posted in normal institutional participation and give children positive affirmation and recognition

Didn't get past the paywall but, recently a friend had their primary school targeted by blackmailers who took public photos of children and made (I'm told) extremely explicit images with them, threatening to release them if not paid.

What's the defense? Intelligent screening of incoming messages so that the threat never reaches the blackmail target? I imagine they'll find an unprotected channel.

Don't post innocuous images of children ever? Seems like losing.

It watching the starscape change around me as I jumped from system to system, actually seeing formations and nebulae in the distance and being able to move toward, around, into them, which made it feel alive to me. I agree the planets moving doesn't really matter on a gameplay timescale.

I was completely immersed - it was a good way to spend a few days during lockdowns :)

So, a footer to make sure they've already engaged with the content in good faith before seeing the spam warning, and which doesn't actually explain that the content is AI generated?

Just go post on black hat forums. Plenty of people want this, it's a spam service. You don't need to be here.

How could this possibly be enforcable now after they let it go for 50+ years, and the design is ubiquitous? Prima facie absurd, I really hope the legal system is equipped to deal with this.

For anyone who enjoys this, exploration in "Elite: Dangerous" (for which you need to be neither elite nor dangerous, exploration is peaceful) might be enjoyable for you as well.

From the wiki: Elite Dangerous has a 1:1 scale simulation of the Milky Way galaxy based on real-life scientific principles, scientific data and theories. It includes around 400 billion star systems, modeled on actual galactic charts. Planets and moons rotate and orbit with 1:1 scale in real-time, thus constantly changing a system's environment

Using google products is your own fault at this point, hard to really care.

Using a common VPN on a residential IP caused my entire internet connection to be blocked for a few hours at a time after ~10 minutes, verified over a few weeks with ~3 intermittent attempts. Make of that what you will.

Lol given how they handled SEO let's just safely assume they'll leverage this to enshittify the product.
