Chatgpt is so damn good for cooking it is unbelievable. It will learn your family's tastes over time, you can tell it what pantry staples you keep is stock, and you can take any recipe you find online and ask for stuff like "find a way to make this preparable in 45 minutes instead of 2 hours, what trade offs will I be making?"

Very off topic - Just 2 days of for fun I tried to login to AOL.com with my username and PW from 1995. (Same username as on HN in fact)

It worked! That is one hell of a series of good DB migrations.

Sadly I was immediately forced to change my password. Still, 31 years is a good run for a password.

Sorry I should have specified that is the pro controller, typical use case is a docked switch and the controller is used while on a couch or some such.

Literally the worst case scenario for dramatic reduction in battery life.

Anyone remember that blog post from a few months back where someone was able to improve a model's math ability by just duplicating layers that were activated while solving math problems? Just literally copy/pasting them and linking them together so the model ran through the same layers again?

I get the feeling a lot more research is going to come out in the area of exploring exactly what portions of a model's weights do what.

I don't use tik tok (it never managed to adjust itself to me, YT shorts figured me out faster). I pay for YT Premium so I don't see ads, and I have ad blockers everywhere else, and I just refuse to use any platform that forces ads on me.

Related - ads are a pox upon society.

It's funny, the only place I see Kalshi mentioned is here on HN for articles about how bad Kalshi is. Same for all the sports betting sites.

I'm sure they are all bad, but damned if I never encounter them outside of HN.

It is typically a 40hr battery life.

~6 hours is quite a drop.

My 8 year old switch is happy.

The switch doesn't fast charge at absurd rates and generally has good thermals.

The NE Seattle one has an opening a few years back that I should've tried applying for.

Thankfully the design review process has been neutered now and hopefully it doesn't get brought back!

One of my regrets is not joining my area's design review board when it had an opening just so I could rubber stamp everything yes.

I've been in using the same alias since 1995. (COM port 2, where modems used to be at)

My pre Internet alias was comkid but that was super common online and not available when I first signed to for AOL back in 1995!

Long ago in Seattle there was a network of BBSs and the head board was called Rat City. They had a lot of work by local artists (mostly tracker files and digital artwork IIRC).

I have not been able to find a single hint of their existence. Everything about what was once a collection of artistic works, wiped from the earth.

We really need to do a better job managing our historical legacy.

We can just bury it in a cement casket.

There isn't that much of it once it is solidified and it isn't that dangerous.

Yeah but Sony has a decade long history of being schizophrenic with long term media format support.

Amazon has spent more money on prime video that Sony has on the entirety of PlayStation. Videos sold on the PlayStation store are a bullet point in a PowerPoint of Sony's finances.

Mexican sure, but this was an American restaurant that otherwise had the staples we'd expect today.

And then they had a tongue sandwich!

I don't own any way to play physical disc media anymore, and for the handful of movies I watch multiple times (so far 2), it made sense to buy them.

I only buy through Amazon Videos, with the logic being Amazon is going to be around awhile.

The first menu I opened had tongue sandwiches and hot beef tea.

So some things have definitely changed!

So long as Chinese labs keep writing white papers, trade secrets aren't going to win the day.

Having growth up in the 90s, it is weird seeing companies share their technology secrets publicly.

For the stims, I've found that most doctors titrate up the dose way to fast.

For example for methylphenidate, I'd recommend starting on 2.5mg (1/2 the smallest pill) for a week or two, until side effects go away, and then up the dose to 5mg.

Good to hear they are adding more green ways! I love the program and I feel they are safer (and a lot more affordable) than "bike lanes" on arterial streets that are often just a painted line.

I do wish Google maps was aware of them though.
