Idk, I'm with Apple on this one. This product isn't marketed specifically as a laptop charger. It's a 29W power adapter. It can be used with a USB C to Lightning cable to fast-charge an iPhone X or iPad Pro. Or it can be used with a USB C to USB C cable to charge a Mac. Why should Apple assume that what you need is a USB C to USB C cable? Unlike the MagSafe charger, which was proprietary and could only be used on Macs, this adapter can be used for multiple reasons. At no point is this marketed as specifically a laptop charger. USB-C is a standard, unlike MagSafe.
One could argue however that it's unfair to price it $85, and that argument does have merit.
