This seems like a government authority over chain of business issue. A government should be able to step in and say we have priority customers that need these more. There are repercussions for doing that.
I don't understand why you wouldn't rely on some other normal local storage for an app, except to be super lazy making cross device apps with some platform. I think that's what all the screaming is about. Low budget cross compatible apps will suffer.
We've been writing corporate America a hall pass for quite some time. With many of these, I'm sure it's time to say "We'll loan you the money, on the condition the government owns you if you don't pay up." And if there is any company trying to lend more than their value...just end them - they've effectively become a cancer.
It doesn't make a real difference to policy makers. If anything, it introduces more red tape. The number of available hospital beds is the critical number here. If the people who need hospital beds rises significantly, there has to be an administrative decision to open more impromptu hospital space to deal with it.
If you're sick, but not needing a hospital, the public communication has already mentioned what you need to know. Try to self isolate. Avoid being in crowds. Avoid coughing in crowds. Testing people that are only going to recover without assistance is simply stretching the necessary resources even more thin. And...some countries have mandated that covid19 folks be totally isolated. That's unmanageable when 1/5 to 1/3 the population already have it, and becomes more to do without much benefit. For those places, it shines a light that the government can not manage this problem, even if most will make a full recovery.
This is really more of a question of what kind of federal government we maintain. No one seems to dispute that having some form of federal government is good.
Just the virus? I got tired of playing the game. I might save save 20 dollars in some instances but then have to throw something heavy in the way of the door so that other "guests" didn't break and steal stuff in the middle of the night. A business model without healthy standards isn't much of a business model.
At what cost? Every company saves money, or they wouldn't be a company for long.
"[Edited 1:26 PM GMT+5] It would appear that the press release was a bit misleading. The actual comparison here is between a 2P system housing two 22-core Xeon CPUs with hyperthreading disabled vs one single Tesla V100. It is still an absolutely substantial speedup and the ramifications are more or less the same but I apologise for the error. Changes have been made in the original text wherever needed."
It's an idiotic story. People have been stealing the emblems of expensive cars like BMW for years. Now they make one that integrates with the car body itself, and this guy has a fit? The stupidity is astounding.
Yeah, is it baseless to believe that the hospitals are not charging 3k for a test? When they charge for stuff like this, they inherently try to cover their ass and overcharge to cover other related costs they can't put a price tag on.
According to US law, generally an employee is someone you give very fined tune directions to, where a contractor is someone that does the general things you ask according to their preexisting knowledge and know-how.
It doesn't seem like anything special. Maybe he added special caching for high loads. Would be nice if the counts actually used some kind of trust ratings to populate ranges based upon the infection rates, and probability of misreporting. And honestly, if you don't vigorously test, how can you hope to have accurate numbers?
If I understand the difficulty with production systems in general, things of high complexity have difficulty being stopped and restarted, because the technology and know how to do them are lost. I believe that's why we can't make another Saturn V rocket at the moment.
