No, mister Flock CEO, I assure you, we dislike your company and anyone choosing to do the repugnant and unconstitutional job you do.

Anthropic's behavior this year seems... silly? Incoherent? Insane? Not sure what to call it.

This is the spirit we need more of, good to see nerds causing a ruckus.

I've been running a local forgejo instance since last year, and I gotta say I like it. Need to get a net-booted (no persistent storage) runner up on an isolated network ("IT HAS BEEN ZERO DAYS SINCE THE LAST NPM SUPPLY CHAIN ATTACK" etc) and then I'm basically content. Backing it with rook-ceph and some consumer-grade UPS batteries has me at a higher uptime than github. I know I'm getting old because reading this I started reminiscing about subversion.

Nope, I just won't use whatever websites implement this.

I recently had to build a system to drop inbound traffic originating from cloudflare ASNs to prevent bad actors using WARP proxies, no legitimate cloudflare traffic usecases for anything inbound. Getting increasingly sick of cloudflare.

I agree with this, the last three months have been complete nonsense. I'll take a less capable model with a workflow I know well over playing "what got silently removed this time" or "figure out the latest model's quirks". The behavior of the american AI field/industry this year feels unstable and unsustainable, and I'm personally ready to wash my hands of this and find/build something reliable.

At the risk of hand-waving a complex personal belief, I don't really believe in copyright, but for us to train models on all of human writing, without asking or paying, then turn around and scream 'foul' at someone training a model on the first models seems... genuinely insane? I don't quite have an easy to way to verbalize this level of staggering hypocrisy. I suppose nothing should surprise me anymore, but here I sit, surprised.

This is a super-interesting concept, is there more technical information anywhere? I don't know much yet about the video side of modern AI and I'd love to learn more about how these systems work!

It's cheesy and stupid, but especially when I find things like this that genuinely get under my skin, I try to remind myself to 'be starfleet about it'.

Outside of confiscating children, I think the move here is education campaigns explaining that diseases like this are not common colds and have serious consequences. I don't think a federal campaign like this would be possible given the current state of the government, but I do think it's something to strive for.

I think the only polite thing I can say here is: "Oh no."

Closed-source login system? Am I missing something?

I feel a little ashamed as a nerd as I didn't make the connection to the RSA/encryption wars back in the day, but yeah, it's eerie how similar it is.

As someone who grew up on food stamps, I'd fully believe the mean and median income on hackernews are six figure numbers.

I THINK I found the actual repo, https://github.com/ConiferKit/sage They explicitly say

> Sage is a proprietary application. The high-performance inference engine and the agent runtime are Sage's core technology and ship only as compiled binaries — there's no source here. This repository exists to distribute the app and its release notes, nothing more.

Not a fan of this, personally.
