You also need to look at the Eastern market - Chinese/Middle East markets are apparently what is driving the outrageous size of BMW's grills, and many other extreme design elements currently en vogue.
I love it. It's like one of the 'all sharp angles and super futurey and stuff!' cars from an 80s sci-fi film, where they've taken the body off a real car and welded up some ludicrous replacement. I mean why not FFS - have you seen what Chinese tastes are doing to BMW's grills?
> "alt-right" in vehicular form, it would look something like this
Strange, I thought the alt-right meme was that brutalist design was a Marxist demoralisation psy-op; surely an alt-right design would be more akin to the Beetle (as partly conceptualised by Hitler).
In my experience the further away from fierce commercial factors, the greater the tendency towards cargo-cultism. Hiring for roles in government related work in the UK is awash with acronyms and buzzwords, as if it's the case that with enough methodology and certifications we can regulate failure away. Problem is: things still seem go wrong in all the same old ways despite all the latest greatest fancy new techniques. But hey, all our developers are TOGAF certified these days, so that's something!
To someone attempting to return to web dev after a break of a decade or so, my normal response is incredulity at the absolute horrorshow that's arisen. To me it's a complete towering, teetering mess of differing approaches, needlessly heavyweight frameworks, terrible decisions, and inefficiency. This is probably the ultimate cliched comment but I honestly cannot understand how any self-respecting developer can work with this xxxx and look themselves in the mirror.
I love these posts of new retro consoles. I would love to see one that maintains the audio-visual aesthetics i.e. FM chip tunes, sprite-based 2D graphics yet otherwise pushes the hardware to the absolute max of what is possible today. I think the zenith of 2D gaming was consoles like Neo-Geo and Sega Saturn (and possibly a 2D arcade board whose name escapes me?) and I'm thinking of something along those lines. Does such a thing exist?
> refuse to sacrifice anything materially to have children
There are also those that have the best motives for not having children - namely that the country is getting worse, and why inflict a negative future on them? Environmental destruction, overcrowding, pollution, insane property prices, worsening opportunities to get on in life, rampant crime and drugs with disinterested policing and lax punishment apart from against those that are legitimately defending their rights (who are punished harshly), general undermining of traditional values, etc..
Oh but of course I'm just a bigoted dinosaur for holding these thoughts.
