I have to help my parents with something like this at least once a month. The last one was trying to find a traffic school for my dad to go to. There was no way he could ever figure it out, and even I had trouble with the horrible UI on the website. I decided a year ago not to move more than an hour away from them.

I'm from a guess culture. Then I went to an ask culture area for work (Coastal California). I had an under-powered, slow computer that I had to work on. When my manager found out, he was mad that I never said anything and that I never complained about it. I was shocked that he was mad. In the more rural area I was from, it would have been rude to complain about the tools that the company provided for you. You were told to just "suck it up", be quiet, and quit complaining. Those who complained too much were usually the first to get laid-off.

It's difficult to get into this field if you don't have a graduate degree. I was a double major, Computer Science and Biochemistry, with a minor in Biotechnology. I sent my resume to many biotech and pharma companies, but could not even get an interview. A lot of the jobs said you need 0 years experience if you have a PhD, but 10 years experience if you have a Bachelors. Now that I have 10 years experience as a developer, I've forgotten almost everything I learned in my science education, and I've lost interest.
