The more I keep thinking about this the less I am inclined to do any optimizations. This is operating system problem. OSes are supposed to implement proper sleep modes for apps instead of mindlessly restarting them.

Don't throw this on devs. Attempting to fix the problem on dev side would cost billions of dollars worldwide and it would probably fail. Meanwhile, proper app sleep modes across all OSes is a comparatively small million-dollar project.

Personally, I am not going to invest a single second of my time into optimizations of app launch if I can avoid it. If you are bothered by app launch performance, go hack app sleep states into Linux or other free OS instead of shouting at devs.

Perhaps what's needed is hibernation for apps? Just let all apps run forever and swap them out to disk when not in use. Hibernate the whole system instead of shutting it down while at it.

Root cause is that startup path is more crowded these days with JIT, dynamic linking, app initialization, filesystem/DB scans, sandbox initialization, subprocesses, etc. It's a natural consequence of the apps (or underlying frameworks) growing in size and complexity. Optimizing it all by hand is unreasonably expensive if not impossible.

What we need instead is a way to persist the process or even whole sandbox to disk and then fork off new instances from that. That's much less work and much more effective than piecemeal optimizations (AOT, native code, etc.). Unfortunately, existing platforms and frameworks do not support forking, let alone forking from persisted app image.

This is an example of a bias in perception of discrimination. You dismiss the idea of discrimination of whites and men upfront. You probably believe whites and men are not discriminated against in any substantial way. You are even willing to paint discrimination of whites and men as a "loss of previous favors".

Consider this example: Difference in pay between men and women is a small discomfort (single women can afford 5% smaller homes) while divorce and child custody courts ruin lives (of men in 90% of cases) and cause unbearable pain (due to loss of contact with children). Yet pay equality is talked about and politically pushed through much more than joint child custody. This is what I call bias in perception of discrimination.

This is all a bit OT, but I think it is understood that misjudging discrimination and taking disproportionate action can damage opensource projects.

A bit OT, but perception of discrimination is itself subject to bias, for example discrimination of women and minorities is taken seriously while discrimination of whites and men is laughed off. Bias in perception of discrimination would prevent you from even recognizing existing biases, not to mention weighting them correctly, and possibly lead you to aggravate existing discrimination.

What the heck does "he is unpopular with nationalist governments in Eastern Europe" mean anyway? He is disliked by Hungarian government, because he is an obstacle on their path to greater power. That's it. You are making it sound like the whole eastern Europe doesn't like Soros.

This sounds like a rant by someone under influence of Hungary's hate campaign against Soros. The fact is that Hungarian government is dismantling democracy and both EU and Soros are right in pointing that out. And while immigration is a matter of national sovereignty, the attitudes towards Muslim immigrants in eastern Europe are driven by nothing but pure xenophobia.
