1) SEC will not be able to enforce regulation on distributed exchanges that are coming.
2) If you stake your coins on Lightning it may come under the purview of some regulation, but difficult to enforce.
3) If you trade on international exchanges, SEC cannot do much.
Crypto is censorship resistant after you onboard (convert fiat to crypto) through a regulated exchange.
I do not generally read or comment on HN because it is too leftist biased both in articles they post and in the comment section (for my personal taste). I urge anyone to educate themselves further about DEX (distribute exchanges), and how it plays out with KYC/AML (know your customer/anti money laundering) laws.
In other news: Twitter buried a significant portions of tweets related to hacked emails from the Democratic National Committee and Clinton campaign chair John Podesta in the last two months of the 2016 presidential campaign.
Twitter’s systems hid 48 percent of tweets using the #DNCLeak hashtag and 25 percent of tweets using #PodestaEmails, Twitter general counsel Sean Edgett said in his written testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee Tuesday.
Aside: From what I read in the past Trudeau is a leftist and he does not 'get' Islamic terrorism the same way Trump gets it (end the 'diversity' visa program used by yesterday's terrorist, and replace it with merit based one). As far AI and smart cities, we have to wait and see how much the government can change the game. Salaries are low in Canada, and US is nearby. I would imagine smart AI researchers will eventually leave Canada and immigrate to US. I think Trudeau will just be throwing taxpayer money at the Google's of the world, with little to show in return, and in the meantime, leftist media will be celebrating him as the next coming of Jesus.
Let people have the freedom to decide how they want to spend their time. So what if fb is addictive? You don’t own other people. It is fascistic to impose your will on others.
Shouldn't we increase minimum wage again?! Fun to read all the panic and denial of leftists on this topic. Raise minimum wage and you speed up automation and throw out poor people from their jobs. One has to be brainwashed to argue that mandating higher wages does not force a company to adopt automation sooner. Walmart is doing the correct thing. Leftist policies are destroying jobs for poor people and forcing them to become welfare dependents. Good job socialists -- keep the denial going.
"lot of my aversion to the argument is from the disdain for people with lower-class jobs that I read into it".
Trying to read someone's mind is a tell for someone brainwashed. Do you think people who argue that raising minimum wage speeds up automation and hurts the people it intends to help, are making the argument in bad faith, and not based on data? Maybe you cannot argue based on facts and so instead you are attacking the character of people arguing against your socialist position.
A non story. Facebook is doing what Facebook ought to be doing. Monopoly is not a bad thing when no one’s rights are being violated. The next innovation will come from someplace other than social media.
No one is forced to use Facebook. Where is the coercion? On the other hand you want to you government as a bludgeon against a private company engaged in consensual transactions with private individuals, causing no harm to third parties.
Even before I read the article I guessed this is an Indian kid. I am Indian and I know the parents mentality. I also think her parents played a huge role in this, and the leftist media is hyping it up to signal their virtue.
Welcome to socialism. Why should there be any cap on fat % (one of the requirements)? If I want to buy a food product knowing full well what the fat content is, and if Soylent wants to sell me a food product faithfully labeling the fat content, each of us to be engaged in a consensual transaction with no externalities (no third party getting hurt), why is Canadian government putting both of us in jail? Socialism is not just a bad idea that does not work, but an evil idea that encroaches on freedom. Feel free to disagree and provide your evidence.
You don’t have to buy from an American company. But you have no moral authority to force someone, in this case the owners of Carrefour, to do what you want them to do with their business. You’re not entitled to someone else’s labor or service. You’re arguing for socialism, and socialism is evil for the reason I mentioned above.
Net neutrality is socialism, as in government getting in the way of free enterprise. It stifles innovation as Ajit Pai pointed out. Leftist groupthink of course will not allow you to say this in public
There is an obvious explanation that people are missing on this thread. These graduates are under employed. The salary is too low to pay back student loans. They have gotten degrees in useless disciplines. This is the danger of government giving out student loans. Since government is answerable to no one, it is like a giant pot of money that students can just borrow. As a result they end up spending the money on degrees that have very little return on investment. If it is a private entity giving out student loans, the loan officer will not give loans to someone majoring in useless liberal arts degrees. Since it is cheap to get student loans colleges have become more expensive, which means students are taking out bigger loans. This is the problem with socialism. It does not even work in theory.
Goes on to show that leftist loonbags are running these cities. I will not explain why this lawsuit is ridiculous, because other commentators have already made that point. I also think that YC is a leftist cesspool.
This goes on to prove that man needs a purpose to be happy. A job gives a purpose. Universal basic income is nothing new. Saudi Arabia already has universal basic income, and people are not happy, and after a long period of laziness, they are unwilling and unable to go back to work, and worse -- they are prone to be attracted to terrorism. Free money, by and large, in a majority of cases, will kill a man's soul.
