I need to read 3 articles a second to earn the same amount as I do in my day job. Even someone on a low wage would need to read an article every 3 seconds to compete with their drive thru job.
This sort of model is not sustainable anyway. Advertisers paying uninterested people to read stuff that is irrelevant to them.
If you want to pay me $100/h for my Python script to click those links... I might be interested :)
The SGD/pre training/deep learning/transformer local maxima is profitable. Trying new things is not, so you are relying on researchers making a breakthrough, but then to make a blip you need a few billion to move the promising model into production.
The tide of money flow means we are probably locked into transformers for some time. There will be transformer ASICs built for example in droves. It will be hard to compete with the status quo. Transformer architecture == x86 of AI.
Aren't most using a SaaS to manage the process? In addition don't most have job criteria they are ranking against. You could give good feedback with just the data in the DB in 5 minutes using a template and stock answers. This assumes a well organised fair process of course. An internal or external recruiter could deliver the news.
