You don't have to eat during the flight, or you can delay eating to be out of phase. I've done that and so far it's been effective over a number of transatlantic flights.

According to the article, the process is basically about removing the lignin from the wood, not adding chemicals. The knife was coated in "food grade oil" to seal it, so I suspect there are no chemicals to worry about here.

The Greek for sky (ουρανός/Uranus) is etymologically related to words for rain (see: https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/%CE%BF%E1%BD%90%CF%81%CE%B1...). Greece isn't known for its abundant rainfall.

It is actually fairly normal to name the sky for the things it has in it (clouds, rain, etc), and it is not a strong indicator of how good the weather is.

Three West Coast Main Line operates speeds up to 125mph/200kmph, so very much high speed rail in US terms - faster than the Acela if I recall correctly.

Eta had the value of a long mid front vowel (long "e"). German "See" is very close, but for English, the closest approximation is probably "say", which is a diphthong. This refers to Ancient classical pronunciation, before the Hellenistic period.

It is definitely not a hight front vowel ("see"), which is the value it had in Koine and has in modern Greek.

This is pattern matching. Support for this exists in Haskell, Scala, and now even Ruby and soon Python.

The article argues that being fired (or ideally resigning) is preferable to appearing to be happy with unacceptable circumstances. If his influence was minimal, the article argues there was little point being at the table

The main criticism is that he was not being honest with the public.
