"Even symmetric algorithms with a shared secret key aren't safe - with an appreciable amount of ciphertext and only a vague idea of the nature of the data ("ASCII text" for example), the Machine can try all possible decryption keys and see which potential plaintexts fall within the description of the real plaintext. There will probably be few enough left that choosing the right one is a matter for only a moment's thought!"
This is just clearly wrong as long as you append an appropriately long number of random bits to your plaintext before encrypting. There will be a virtually infinite number of candidate plaintexts with randomly appended bits to choose from (think: Borges's Library of Babel)
It's a very stupid prediction that the Serena Williams incident will end her career. It should be a "lingering black eye" for her — she behaved horribly. But it won't be how she will be remembered ultimately.
No, the EU is failing. Merkel has spearheaded the importation of millions of people who (along with their descendants) will NEVER thrive in the information economy, and who will accelerate their fiscal demise as their native population ages.
The English language is a scalpel. It's more expressive than any other language in history. As far as I'm concerned, the more widespread it becomes, the better.
You can use ALPR to track people who are known to have entered illegally or who have been sentenced to deportation and are avoiding their sentence. Illegal aliens are criminals.
This is the first thing I've read that actually increased my support for the widespread use ALPR technology. Every illegal alien in this country is a criminal, by definition.
"Finally, the CEO of a brokerage house explained that he had nearly completed building his own underground bunker system and asked, “How do I maintain authority over my security force after the event?”
The Event. That was their euphemism for the environmental collapse, social unrest, nuclear explosion, unstoppable virus, or Mr. Robot hack that takes everything down.
This single question occupied us for the rest of the hour. They knew armed guards would be required to protect their compounds from the angry mobs. But how would they pay the guards once money was worthless? What would stop the guards from choosing their own leader? The billionaires considered using special combination locks on the food supply that only they knew."
Wouldn't the guards simply torture you until you opened all of the locks?
