I didn't like the tone of this article at all. I'll spare us all and put aside the causality vs. free will debate, but saying all of our actions are controllable is ridiculous.
If trying like hell not to have to wake up early in the morning makes someone a sissy, then I'm the king of sissies.
This reminds me of a quote from Crowfoot, once a chief of the Blackfoot tribe:
"What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the winter time. It is as the little shadow that runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset."
Life's short. Enjoy it. If that means not waking up at a certain time, then don't. But, also, don't complain when you have to deal with the consequences.
I think the guy was just being honest. I've never been in his situation before, as I subscribe to the notion of not leaving an opportunity until you have another sure fire opportunity (I know this isn't a popular outlook here), but I bet he's scared and just did a brain dump of his feelings.
I don't know the guy, so I'm not qualified to comment on his personality. From the several paragraphs I have to decipher his personality, he doesn't seem like a bad guy, and he seems to be good at communicating his thoughts. Maybe he's just looking for jobs in all the wrong places?
I took it to be more about nerds online. I haven't met too many people face to face that are even a tenth as rude as 90% of the people I see online. Of course, I arbitrarily picked those numbers. I'm going to point that out before I get flamed.
I don't like having comma first listings, but it makes it incredibly easy to comment out parts of a query. I find commenting out parts of a query essential when trying to debug really long, complex queries.
I agree (hence the post), but at least with open source we have access to the source code. I realize this doesn't replace documentation, but could you imagine using a closed source project with sh*y documentation?
Java is exactly what I'm using, and you are correct... it is a massive PITA to attach sources. Unfortunately, we're not using Maven but plan to in the future.
So sad. This made me even more grateful for the life that I have. The transient nature of life is difficult to come to grips with. I wish Derek's family well.
Wow. It seems like this research hurt the feelings of some Facebook users. I see Facebook's utility, but I fail to care. The people I care about are already in my life - daily. I see no use in staying abreast of what people I otherwise would not communicate with are currently up to.
