Not sure what exactly the author does, but IM is the absolute life saver in every developers world. E-Mails are spammy, include too many people, are too long, take too long to write, get drowned in a sea of useless crap, etc... Everyone working in a bigger corporation, knows that emails are a major time sink.
Video calls? Sure, if there is a meeting. But video calls, not matter what software you use, is a nightmare. The quality is crap, the connection lags and it never feels anything close to real life interaction...
But most importantly, IM let's you respond on your own time. There is nothing worse that people talking to you or calling you with a video call while you are trying to figure out why that statemachine recursed into the 20th method call and then jumping this way and that way, suddenly jumped the wrong way and then still produced the correct result while thinking about how it got into the 20th call in the first place when it should have branche din the 10th call... You get the picture.
Wow, 11 years too late, it's finally here. The new ingenious invention, by Apple, to let me sign in to apps with the account I am already logged in on my device. But hey, it's Apple, let's cheer...

The article misses out on the math though. She saves 90% percent of her income? So does she earn 80k after taxes? She would need to earn about 130k+ after taxes to save 90% of her income, given that she is the one who pays all the expenses, which at 1000$ per 3 people is hard to imagine. Even in a small German town, where things are dirt-cheap compared to Seattle, 1000$ for 3 persons is almost impossible.
I don't like these headlines. Why does everything have to be clickbait these days?
You know how expensive it is to write a Kernel? I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft will ditch their own Kernel just as they ditched their own browser engine... Why waste time and money on something that other people do equally well or better for you for free? It's just business....
I find it funny that people still believe that any alien object reaching us (just remember the engineering work necessary to do that and how many hundreds of years if not more we are away from reaching distant planets or galaxies) could be observed in the visual range or even with any kind of technology we have. And if they do, then it is on purpose. What purpose is that? Doesn't earth look tasty to them? It's much more likely that these are some military prototypes or spy equipment, unmanned drones, etc. or just pure imagination.
So you are saying that this particular child's death was not of her own doing? What about the other hundreds of thousands of child deaths? Did the other children all sit down and think "Hey, how am I going to kill myself quickly and miserably"?
Obviously a child (except in rare cases) doesn't intent to kill itself or wittingly pursues actions that lead them to death. Even adults don't do that. An alcoholic doesn't necessarily assume he will die. A person who eats junk food every day doesn't do so with the realization that it is bad for them and will lead to early death. They (and we as humanity) are mostly ignorant of the consequences of their actions.
Their parents are the only ones who could be responsible for her death. Plain and simple. If I know my kid is allergic to shellfish, I am not feeding her shellfish every day. Not every street has high pollution. On top of that, asthma is not a disease, it is a symptom. While sadly most people and even doctors don't care to root cause symptoms, the fault would primarily lie there. And consequentially with the doctors, who didn't care to fix her asthma or prevent this child from getting polluted further.
