Given enough people, loud complaining, money, and politicians ears you can get anything moved.

Indeed, this was one of those undocumented but everyone sort of knew features in Quake-engine based games.

Everyone just learned it through asking usually in the multiplayer chat.

I think it's more likely some people can just power through lack of sleep. I've recently started trying to sleep more 6-7+ hours after a decade of doing the 3-5 hours thing.

I just feel better now with more sleep and while I certainly could perform at a high level with less sleep I had to exert more energy the longer the day went on to stay focused.

Genetic? Maybe, or just really good discipline and work ethic?

Nothing about this actually is minimal. It's a highly stylized design that I guess "feels" minimal, but it utterly fails at actually being minimal.

Yea but that could take many months to years to happen. Keep milking it. They'll have a good financial cushion to find something else afterwards.

Also paying for Intellij, it's an amazing tool.

Have you considered that your assumptions may be heavily flawed?

> and that many were fatigued, with an average of 4.9 hours of sleep between the 14 crew members present.

I suspect this played more of a role than any of the controls or procedures did. I had a friend in the Navy and he once explained the shifts he did to me and how utterly insane they were.

I suspect leadership doesn't want to (or cant) fix the root cause (fatigue) and is happy to spend tax dollars to replace the steering and divert attention from the problem for now. Gotta do something! Anything! Even if it's not the right thing.

Some possibilities:

- Market segmentation, the people on Azure DevOps are not likely to use GitHub Actions and vice versa. - Long term plan might be to bring both of them closer together. - Build good will (marketing).

As with all things just having the option would be nice, but it does not mean it is useful or a good idea for everyone to use it.

For personal stuff I would much rather a kill switch than a nasty surprise. For _some_ businesses, that is probably the wrong decision though.

Which is fine if you want to do that. I agree with the above posters, and you can certainly argue that working so much is bad, but the company is telling you exactly what it expects which is far better than most companies.

So I've been using it a bunch on my more recent Python projects. The promise and the reality are unfortunately not close.

For the record I love having a one stop tool for virtualenvs and dependency management. That's quite nice. The Pipfile is nice. The Pipfile.lock is awesome.

The tool itself is:

1. Painfully slow. 2. Very buggy.

For example `pipenv graph --json` is broken in the latest release. This is the mechanism that other tools use to hook into pipenv. It's actually been broken in various ways since May.

It's also incompatible in subtle ways with the latest pip. So I had to downgrade to pip 10.x.

I've had some frustrating experiences lately now that the honeymoon is over.

I'm going to keep using it, but I really hope some serious improvement is made in the next 6 to 12 months around performance and stability.

You're doing it wrong if you're day trading stocks... dollar cost averaging is your friend when it comes to volatility and well if you're investing you're doing so because of long term belief in the company so it should be easy to hold and not worry about it.
