Why? LineageOS plus F-Droid with Firefox, OsmAnd~ and Conversations is surprisingly usable.
I agree it could get a bit more polish. But if Eelo is going to be a big effort, maybe he should try to go for a full Linux distro like Jolla sans the closed components. With stuff like Anbox (Android containers) it should be moderately easy to bootstrap an ecosystem.
Ubuntu is now really polished, and works great if you cherry pick hardware a bit and avoid components with drivers that are not in the kernel.
But I'd go one step further and argue that, as a developer, Linux can give you a unique experience if you stick to its strengths:
* Use a minimal distribution with few moving parts -> Things rarely break, and if something does it's usually easy to fix
* Try functional package management and administration (NixOS) -> Easy to reproduce setups, trivial to rollback, no dependency hell
* Try a simple keyboard-driven desktop -> A tiling window manager (XMonad), a web browser (Firefox) and Emacs (with Org, Magit, Eshell, Dired, Notmuch...) work incredibly well
I understand that given you are listing Rust alongside Solidity, your interest might be in cryptocurrencies, but I still thought this might be worth to ask.
I'm very experienced in C++98, less so in C++11 and successors as I spent most of my time on other languages this decade (OCaml, Scala and R). C++11 is much more modern and appealing, so I'm wondering whether I should update my C++ skills, learn Julia, learn Rust, or a combination of those.
I've reviewed dozens of minimalist shoes and gotten some custom made.
Vivo is hit and miss in terms of quality. Some models are quite good. In my opinion, their classic desert boot Gobi is the best item in their lineup. Some variations are offered with insulation and/or water resistance.
IMHO, the very best minimal shoe money can buy is a Russell Moccasin [1]. And I say this as a European that in principle prefers high end English (Edward Green), Spanish (Carmina) and Austrian (Saint Crispin) shoes.
Some words of warning, though. It's a traditional company. Orders are very slow and there's little feedback. Plus their QC is sloppy. Some pairs are very well finished, others are not.
I'm not so happy with their adult shoes. Some are good, like Gobi. Others are pretty bad, and they change their designs pretty radically so they never improve their weak points.
For example, I spent a few hundred on the first Porto iteration, and it fell apart in less than 2 months. Their German shop refused to honor the guarantee.
Plus, the Pixel C had so much potential for a dream portable Linux machine. It was designed as a ChromeOS device, with Coreboot. But they locked the bootloader before launching with Android.
