Merry Christmas HN!

To be fair, I put partial blame on the advertisers. They've been claiming "AI" on their products on anything that has an algorithm basically for the past few years.

You can't update/upgrade your onboard car infotainment/ECU like a smartphone. I'd assume the onboard map data going stale FAST.

You get to choose which smartphone to use, and when to upgrade them. The lifecycle of a car is A LOT longer than its onbaord infotainment.

I see no mandated free of charge on data updating, nor mandated support timeframe.

Lenovo vantage, under battery management or something like that. Has been an option for quite long.

Most likely because 2nd season just dropped recently.

LTP: Take pictures of the where you've stored your luggage/bags, "with" surroundings. That way you'll have a much easier time finding it. Especially in larger stations around Japan. Saved my ass in Shinjuku this year.

"since transfers are close to instant" for US, no?

ACH pull/push takes days to get credit either way, wire is faster but still no where close to instant? I know SEPA "can" be instant, but AFAIK wise doesn't do (near)instant transfers to/from US.

> between a E-bike and a super light weight car

Like, a e-scooter/motorcycle? I see hundereds of them during my daily commute. Costs around $3000, and about $20 in monthly charge costs.

USB-C has been great, I now daily carry a 30w pd charger that's basically the same size as those old 5w iphone ones. Works great as a fallback option in a pinch.

On that note, what's the deal with Evolve? I've seen them being the banking service provider for quite a few fintech companies already like Transferwise and BlockFi and else?

Because that'd be perjury, which is a federal crime.

https://docs.github.com/en/site-policy/content-removal-polic...

I'm just gonna quote GitHub "The DMCA requires that you swear to the facts in your copyright complaint under penalty of perjury. It is a federal crime to intentionally lie in a sworn declaration. (See U.S. Code, Title 18, Section 1621.) Submitting false information could also result in civil liability — that is, you could get sued for money damages. The DMCA itself provides for damages against any person who knowingly materially misrepresents that material or activity is infringing. "

This was their original announcement article https://news.samsung.com/global/samsung-sets-the-new-standar...

This is their current security update list (not os updates) https://security.samsungmobile.com/workScope.smsb

"... And select devices launched in 2019 or later will be supported with firmware security updates for a minimum of four (4) years following their global launch, while select newer devices will receive up to five (5) years of security updates."

It's a good start I'd say, considering that Samsung is a major player in the android phone space.

What cards have you tried? If you stick with general-use mSD card these days they'll most likely be TLC. The issue mostly is they don't* support TRIM unlike an SSD, and they use bottom-of-the-barrel flash chips (cause consumer grade, pricing is important here).

Pony up a bit more cash for "high endurance" grade (mostly MLC), or even industrial SLC cards at a much higher price point. My current roster for my small pi4 cluster is a mix of Samsung Pro Endurance, SanDisk High Endurance and Kioxia High Endurance. So far they've been working pretty great for me. Last time I checked they're about $15-25 a pop, which isn't cheap but not that bad either. I've been meaning to checkout SanDisk's max endurance which supposedly has much better write cycles, which I'll probably do after the card in my dashcam dies.

*On SBCs you could do something *like* trim, but it's not as straight forward, and support depends on the controller of the card wildly.

Didn't FTX do something similiar in the US?

Battery rentals sounds awful without standardization. Imagine having the power source of your own car being managed and controlled by the original manufacture without any alternatives, and having to buy electricity only from them. Or being unable to get batteries rented to you anymore because the companies decides not to for whatever reason, and with no option to buy a battery pack outright. Like what Tesla is doing with supercharging right now.

Destination charging and At-home charging is going to be the future, not driving to a station to get a fresh battery. Newer cars like the EV6 can also do 10-to-80 in under 20 minutes nowadays.

They also have solar panels at their batteryswap station when possible.

The problem is battery rentals, I think only NIO right now is operating battery-swapable EVs. It's easy on a scooter, but not so much on cars IMO.

I've been on-and-off curiosity stream(+nebula) and dropout tv, the former for several science/tech/logistics related youtubers' longform content, and the latter for comedy. While I wouldn't call those categories especially niche, but I've grown to enjoyed their content more than current offerings from netflix and amazon prime to be frankly honest, and I'm all for it.

It seems vimeo found their niche(?) of a market providing white-lable OTT service, which I'd assume makes spinning up a streaming provider for a niche market even simpilier.

I would agree, but right now that square is more akin to being owned by several private companies, each with their own policy which can (and will) throw you out and bar you for any reason they deemed fit.

"send text over the Internet to someone in real time"

Sounds a lot like email with push-mail functionalities.
