iPad Pro M1. I use it rarely. Anything I can’t do on my phone I use my MacBook or pc. Consuming media is better on my laptop display, and easier to type/navigate. It just doesn’t really serve a purpose.

Yes, the battery needs coding to tell the car about its capacity, battery type, etc. to optimize the charging. Fortunately coding modules is not completely locked behind dealer-only tools (see VCDS https://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/VCDS.php), but it is very inconvenient for the non-enthusiast who probably doesn't want to spend $200 on a tool to code their battery.

Take Volkswagen vehicles (VW/Audi, mainly). Nearly every electronic module in the car that you'd want to replace has component protection, making it literally impossible for a non-dealer to replace it since you need access to VAG servers to get the token to code the module for the car VIN. I had this experience recently with a CAN bus controller module that just randomly failed. $3k at the dealer. I would have preferred to do it myself but there is no way.

Yes, I was mistaken. Instead, it seems to be referring to a salary or hourly threshold specifically for overtime exemption.

Thank you for the response, I was missing important context. I came across this scrolling through the WAC page. I found a few articles that clear it up as well:

"Effective January 1, 2025, exempt computer professionals paid at an hourly rate must be paid at least $58.31 per hour in order to be exempt." [0]

"...or $58.31 per hour and be exempt from overtime pay." [1]

I could get behind that type of short, clear legalese.

A big thing that concerns me is the absurd levels of tint people are putting on their windows.

I bought a used car last year that came with 20% all around, and I removed it from the front windows almost immediately. It was so insanely hard to see outside at night properly, especially in dim or unlit areas. How do people with less than that see? I guess they don’t.

It doesn't bother me in my case since it's not my main monitor. I have a high refresh rate main monitor, and an ancient 60hz (1680x1050) second monitor. I don't notice it because I'm rarely dragging windows around on the second monitor.

I don't notice it on my phone either. However, I purposely got a high refresh rate laptop because of this concern. I think it depends on two things: The size of the screen, and how often you'll be looking at it.

I sleep with my phone under my pillow. I should probably stop.

I'm a bit younger than you, but I have had a similar realization. I love programming, but sitting around all day at a desk does not seem fun for the next several decades, and really doesn't do my social/mental health much good, despite the amount of money.

So, I'm working to become a pilot instead. It's expensive, time consuming, competitive, and probably won't see six figures for half a decade or more. But, it's a heck of a lot more meaningful than sitting at my desk all day.

Just thought I'd share my situation and solution since it's relatively similar. All the best.

Work used to use Jira. Then switched to Linear. Now they recently moved back to Jira. I'm thinking about leaving.

All of the pixels were already taken by the time I tried, but I did an "error" pixel (11, 26) just for my own pleasure.

Somehow I got RGB(255, 50, 194), which is different from the value posted on the chart. Actually, I'm not sure how originally they got 0, since G comes from R and B, which are both positive, and the expression is multiplication and addition.

I don't have this many windows open constantly, but I can say that I do a lot of C & C++ stuff with VSCode and my M1 MBP 14 has absolutely zero trouble keeping up. In fact, I often think I should have just got the Air. I'm pretty sure the fan doesn't exist (okay, I know it does, but it is seriously quiet: you should never hear it unless running something super intensive).

What ultimately swayed me towards the MBP was the SD port (I do a bit of hobby photography on the side, this is very useful), the HDMI port, and...the display. It's a fantastic display. Ever since going high refresh rate on my desktop PC, I feel like I can't go back. It's an absolutely wonderful experience.

Interesting observation: I deleted my Twitter account, but created one again recently. Turns out, I was better off without it, so I only login a few times a month to see content from a few people I get a lot of value from. All it shows me in the recommended section is right-wing accounts?? The only accounts I look at are pretty darn far from anything political. My guess is that pushing political stuff drives up view numbers? Not completely sure.

I’ll probably delete it for good soon. It was a lot easier to separate myself from the platform than I thought.

My rationale is that prenups are an acknowledgment that sometimes, people discover things don’t work out. Agreeing what each person has from the beginning confirms the commitment of marriage is beyond the money/wealth that existed before.

I’ve never been married yet but this perspective seems rare. So many people’s lives get destroyed or seriously damaged after a bad divorce. Why not do something that would ease the pain for both parties?

C++ 17 is the sweet spot for me. It has most of C++ 11/14, with many new features I use a ton: constexpr, <charconv>, <string_view>, [[maybe_unused]], new SFINAE feature (if constexpr), and more. (And this was considered a small release!?)

I guess I’m just right at home and therefore a bit reluctant to jump into C++20. That and the constantly changing “””correct way of doing things.”””

Side note, but Silo is one of my favorite shows in a long time. Up there with Severance. Watch it if you haven’t.

I actually bought the first book, Wool, because I liked it so much.

The merging and the lane etiquette are the two biggest for me, though I do a lot more driving now than a few years ago. People going below the speed limit in the leftmost lanes regularly back up the freeway since no one can pass. Also is way more dangerous since some weave in the middle lanes (or right) to make the pass.

I was wondering about that. What would be the proper way of doing it? Perhaps glue…but then you have the screws that hold on the titanium caps. Maybe carbon fiber in general wasn’t a good choice.

Edit: Actually I’m wrong. The hatch is bolted on to a titanium ring, which is glued to the carbon fiber body. So no hatch screws in the carbon fiber. [0]
