I'll raise my home-made, precisely-formulated CBD tincture to that.
Ingredients:
- 99.9% CBD isolate bought in bulk with real batch lab results
- organic coconut oil
- a tiny bit of pure vitamin E T-50
All ingredients sourced from good vendors. Mixture stored in a batch-dated, dark glass container (olive oil containers are good), and delivered sublingually in an eye-dropper bottle where the mg/drop is known. The exact recipe depends on the volume to be made and the desired dosage per drop.
If there is a moral here, it should be to take precautions when working on equipment which might contain dangerous substances. We’ve learned this lesson ourselves cracking open broken laptops. You might find anything from coffee to soda, to pet urine or worse. A box of nitrile gloves definitely should be standard equipment in any hacker’s lab.
Disclaimer: I didn't go to Harvard, but I did go to a private elementary school many moons ago that I mostly don't remember apart from the Apple IIe's and the mandatory shout-singing of John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt.
This will be slightly off-topic. When my parents were shopping for private schools in the early 1980's, they said they came across a couple of schools that were still requiring pictures like Harvard and other universities did in the past. And we should all should know what that means: passive-aggressive discrimination against non-WASPs in "enlightened" 1982 Santa Clara county, California.
Actually-enlightened admissions would blind the name, address, and appearance of the candidate until after they've seen what they've done, what they've written, and what they plan to do. Anything else, regardless if they drop the SAT or ACT: that reduces to bribery, legacy, appearances, connections, and/or pedigree is just social club pickiness in-order to keep "those other people" out.
Someone let me know when America becomes a meritocracy based on capabilities, accomplishments, and potential rather than the folks paying lip-service to it by and claim it is already from people who have every advantage.
Bias, like farting, is inescapable. We should just try to minimize it.
Also, a reporter with integrity won't fall into either trap of agenda-driven reporting or presenting a false equivalency, but will provide necessary context, won't gin-up adjectives disproportionately, and will provide nuanced contrary details because there is no "correct" side that must censor everything else.
The more I've seen of Taibi, the more I dislike his remedial overconfidence and lack of nuance. Chris Hedges OTOH was thrown out of the establishment for expressing an inconvenient truth and demonstrating integrity. The Jesse Ventura's, Jimmy Dore's, Ralph Nader's, and Phil Donahue's also languish as journalistic dissidents while the know-nothing Rachel Maddow's, Anderson Cooper's, and Matt Taibi's so confidentially opine from positions of privilege while squandering their good luck. Maybe if they weren't paid millions or worked for establishment corporations, they'd inhabit a filter bubble closer to Earth?
I didn't downvote but I talked to my mechanic, a Sunni Muslim from Iraq via Dubai, about this very topic last year. He said they all charge fees unless you're from an important family and know a money lender. It's kind of a scam because they're more or less just like every other bank.
Yas! And, I find the littir bitwiin "d" and "f" to b sixist and racist.
Lit's git a whol gang of fimynists togithir to mak iviryon chang thiir languag or loos thiir jobs.
Political correctness keeps finding new old, trivial things to retroactively demonize as "racist." At this rate, because one person maybe offended somewhere, all art must be destroyed, and making or possessing art will be punishable by death. "No singing either! Burn the racist heretic!" Has anyone ever surveyed actual gypsies to ask them if they find art in a card game fictional universe to negatively portray them?
Meanwhile, what are the same busybody zealots doing about grotesque socioeconomic apartheid (including criminal justice, disproportionately incarcerating precious minority brothers and sisters for a little weed), neocolonial pan-militarism, inverted totalitarian klepto-plutocracy corruption of democracies by rent-seeking, feudal billionaires, or the origins and prevalence of all types of mass shootings in the US? No, the Redskins need to change their name right now because reasons. [0]
People need to take a stand to reinforce that the social contract is implicit and doesn't need someone else's arbitrary Code of Conduct pseudo-legalese foisted onto every group or else you're somehow signaling that you're a terrible bigot because you don't do what others demand immediately. Oh, and apologize now, tomorrow, and the day after.. and defenestrate your worthless self properly or else!
I think that's the right regarding merit-based application and selection, but certain groups need more mentoring, coaching, and supportive help that other groups already had. If someone only got in because of made-up points for winning a genetic lottery, that changes things in sinister ways that reinforces divisions and tarnishes their accomplishments.
Whenever there is subjective selection, be it schools or job applicants, I think names and addresses should be blinded to reduce bias. Bias needs to be recognized and averted fairly.
Passive-aggressively setting-up victim hierarchies to exclude all but a certain group is nothing more than hypocritical vindictiveness and demonstrates a fundamental lack of love and joy.
It doesn't just apply to dating. Jobs, friends/parties, and more.
I played semi-passively HTG and Google had an HR person who invited me to design my own role in any department ranging under the umbrellas of SRE, SRE (lead), to SRM.
Another consideration, be it any realm, is: do you really want or need whatever/whoever it is? You probably don't, so have fun and give fewer f's. There is nothing lost by inquiring and demonstrating socially-/self-aware persistence. Be like Peter, post-hypnosis. ;-)
Invest wisely. You're young so diversify and take reasoned risks.
Or buy a cheap plot of land in Oregon, build a cheap OTG microhouse homestead (grow crops, get some hens, and maybe some goats), and WFH. Screw living in SF, NYC, etc. and pissing money away on insane rent and cost-of-living. Also, with the coming climate change droughts, famines, mass migrations, and wars, you're better off having a SHTF Plan B.
Also, reduce your long-term expenses by investing in lightly-used, lowest TCO durable goods that can reduce your living costs, improve quality-of-life, preventatively reduce risks, and automate your life. Toyota Corolla (if driving), Reverse Osmosis water filter, water softener, air quality monitor, robotic vacuum and mop, and so on. (ProTip: avoid Ikea sawdust future-landfill furniture.)
Dress for the job you want. Get some awesome suits. Your look defines how people treat you and creates implicit, subconscious respect and status. If I go out in sweatpants, a tie-dyed shirt, and a beat-up, dirty car.. that's going to get me pulled over and car searched. If I go out in a suit and clean car, the seas part and I can get a warning for doing 100 mph.
Take a vacation. Rent a massive, cheap villa in Brazil and have a zillion happy endings that will knock on your door and can bring a friend. My friend who owns a mediterranean fast casual restaurant on Univ Ave in Palo Alto did this a number of times before getting married; according to him, it was the same price as an average vacation but a million times more fun.
Definitely. I need something different because I have some sort of treatment-resistant major depression that cannot be addressed with anything but medication, regardless of life circumstances, mood, health, or exercise. Although I'm not all that keen on psychedelics and disassociatives, I've tried at least 13 antidepressants and only 1 of them has done anything. The only one that's worked has been mirtazapine* with the caveats of partial GI paralysis and major weight gain. I was on it for 9 years. I tried others as my cognitive faculties and alertness have been declining over the past 2 years.
* Which is also a powerful antihistamine.
I'm beginning to wonder about the medical establishment's depth of understanding and nuance on treatment of serious depression and inability to address so-called treatment-resistant depression. For example, genetics, inflammation, auto-immune issues, diet, GI flora, and other factors that don't seem to be considered clinically. And then there's psychiatry, which is one of the few "medical professions" that doesn't directly test or examine the organ or systems they claim to treat. Psychiatry in particular seems unscientific, arbitrary, and crude.
I don't think there's any panacea, even shrooms, ketamine, or LSD, but the neuropharmacological field has a long way to go and depression is only going to become more commonplace.
