True but also build the contingency in your platform that one day you may need to flip a switch, collect CC info and process through another carrier.

While inconvenient, if your product serves its customers, they’ll fill it out again.

Better than sitting with $0 revenue begging a trillion dollar company to care about yours.

If you’re running your business effectively, everything should have redundancy. Including yourself.

Are you currently playing the premium for a family of four with a decent deductible where it doesn’t feel like you empty your pockets because you want to make sure your pain isn’t going to kill you?

I definitely feel for the people getting laid off...

But hear me out, I think this is going to be a good thing for those people and the economy.

The achievers that are getting laid off now have the opportunity, or are forced, to take that risk to start their own thing and create tremendously more value to the world than they would have at Meta. Alternatively, they could take their tremendous skills to industries and sectors that could really use them and make transformative changes there.

$22/hr starting pay for retail is poorly paid? To essentially be a glorified cashier?

Come on. It doesn’t matter how much Apple makes or is worth. You get paid for the job you do.

I’m not discounting the workers or their positions, simply that retail, like fast food, was never meant in the history of the world to be a full time career. And if you wanted a career in that company, you would leverage your foot in the door at the lowest level to climb the corporate ladder through promotions and taking on more responsibility.

That’s wild that your devices have such a short lifespan.

Anecdata - All of my Apple devices have lasted several years without issue at all.

I think you’re misjudging amazons customer base. I sincerely doubt there is are more than a handful or two of consumers that buy the Fire HD that even know there are different versions.

What is your Linux laptop giving you that your MBP doesn’t? And how does it hurt your productivity? Genuinely curious as I don’t see how it can be any different.

One of the best comments on HN ever. Thank you!

I think it should be very apparent to just about anyone that there aren’t enough programmers in the world to develop enough capable algorithms to buy and sell used cars or homes efficiently or profitably.

There are way too many nuances involved in such transactions that used car dealerships and the traditional real estate transaction model is never going away.

If there were any indication of it going the other way, used car dealerships would have gone out of business long ago. After all, you have been able to buy a used car privately through tons of websites or listing services without a middle man taking a profit for years. But the risk of doing so is too great.

This is pretty common among third party Amazon sellers.

They’re stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Amazon has high standards for seller ratings based on reviews. The proportion of unsatisfied customers leaving negative reviews is exponentially higher than those satisfied leaving positive ones.

They’re doing their best to feed themselves.

The separation of church and state in the constitution specifically refers to the state imposing religion on its constituents. Absolutely nothing to do with taxes or limiting the free speech of religious organizations.

Because that’s how they stay “lean” and steal market share from larger companies by offering lower pricing. It’s all fine and dandy until you need real customer support. That’s why companies like Microsoft, Oracle, etc will never go away. Real enterprise customers need real enterprise support.

>Realistically (and I am not singling out Apple here), we are more and more captive of an ecosystem.

Yes, we definitely are. But I am not so sure that is a bad thing? And it's nothing new... how many businesses had their entire operations tied to Blackberry, Microsoft, Lotus, etc. for so long? The market might be a little slow, but it's not stupid.

I personally like Apple products and services. I like the integration. I like that I don't have to go out and find third party apps for certain things and hope for the best.

> Losing my phone at this point is worse than losing my wallet and Apple is pushing for even tighter integrations with their customer's life which will ultimately centralize all that information.

The great thing about this is a replacement phone can be loaded almost instantaneously with all your info again. How long would it take to have every credit card company and the DMV send you replacements?

Gotta love HN... always acting like Apple is holding a gun to consumers heads.

Coincidently, my wife and I drive by one of their stores that I didn’t realize was so close to our current home.

I asked her if she knew it was there and she said she refuses to go there because they are 2-3x the price of Amazon, even with all their gimmicky 20% coupons.

I understand how Amazon can best out on product costs, but being 50-75% less seems crazy to me.
