LeMessurier gave a talk on this at my school when I was studying architecture and structural engineering. The narrative very much follows the lines of this story, but also appreciate the added detail in the article. His voiceover definitely emphasized the complex ethical considerations of engineering more than the technical: Balancing the interests of insurance, client brand, public sentiment and trust, government relations, and his own professional and firm. Don't get me wrong, the technical details and Delta P effect were super interesting. But the professional practice aspects were what he wanted students to take away from it.

I think there is a large audience for people who want to visit the more uncommon attractions and experiences when traveling. Algorithms on the large travel sites push you to the most common experiences, which is frustrating. It's a huge market and encourage you to continue.

It's doable. I've built some very large scale tax software products in past roles, and have a POV and tons of subject matter expertise on this. The "tax content" issue is solvable, and AI can probably make this easier. I don't have capacity to lead this right now, but would happily contribute.

Intribe.co publishes some great content on this, and has a platform to facilitate these kinds of partnerships. We're using them, just getting started.

I was actually the PM at Avalara for their flagship product. Now as a founder (of a tax software business, too), we're just at the point of needing to address transactional taxes, too. Unfortunately, there are no good options here that are better than #2. I actually built global tax registration products too, and those are painful.

My POV now is that the entire system needs to be disrupted to make this lower friction. By doing this, we can unlock huge amounts of macro economic potential by just eliminating friction.

Transactional tax is so broken that technology can't make it much easier than the solutions you pointed to above. I'm focused on more fundamental disruption to address this, but it's not going to solve your challenges in the near-term.
