Not at all, k8s is not designed for very large scale. Unsurprisingly, FAANGS don't use it to manage their own platforms.

Edit: Google's Borg is a very different beast.

Edit: no need to patronize me. I worked on massive scale deployments otherwise I would not be commenting.

Because nobody invested half a billion dollars in development.

> There is a strong distinction between selling open hardware

Correct. The entire supply chain evolved for proprietary stuff. There are NDAs and roadblocks everywhere.

Most chip vendors are very happy to assist close phone manufacturers in implementing drivers, optimize battery usage etc. and do not cooperate with any open source effort.

> Instead of nurturing competition ... regulate it into being.

Regulation is exactly how you nurture competition. That's what a government is supposed to do.

Instead the US not only allowed but actively encouraged the google/apple duopoly to control the whole market.

See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regulatory_capture for clarification.

True.

If someone clearly describes their project as an experiment or a hobby project then no responsibility should be attached to it.

But if they advertise it as something production-ready or secure they are capturing user's trust, attention and time.

Some company-driven projects even use open source as a foot in the door to get user's data or corner a market and charge money later on.

As a developer your time is valuable and users should not be demand it.

As a user your trust, attention and time are valuable and not every random project on github should get it.

> With everything on Github, it's simply too easy to quickly slap a thoughtless comment on a project

THIS! The UI really encourages drive-by comments from anybody.

Like social networks, it's designed to maximize views and clicks instead of building communities.
