I skimmed the article after I realized that I was being negative. It has some nice explanations so my comment wasn't about the content but just about the wording of the title. :D
The books are loaded with statements against powerhungry politicans.. the TV series are not. It's like the people adapting the books for TV tried to make it palatable for everyone.
I worked for all kinds of companies. They all treated me as a disposable resource. There is no difference beyond the amount of money they pay me. This is in Scandinavia so that might be different from what you experience in your part of our world.
Small companies are usually flat, but my experience is that larger companies turn into departments/teams until someone realizes that more leadership on paper doesn't add any value.
This reminds me that I got fired from a German company (operating in DK) because I asked too many questions and would not stop complaining about the software architecture which was terrible.
The company culture was clashing with the Danish culture that I was used to and also I didn't give a fuck.
Here in DK we have a law with my family name in it .. which the fuckers spelled wrong. I asked them to correct it but they refused. This is the story about how I became a citizen.
I have a feeling that the bloated frontend is one of the mayor problems. We should get rid of html, CSS and JavaScript and implement something that could mix all of the above in a single spec and could be implemented using a VM with limited memory/instructions and still render a page one can interact with and use for control of for instance appliances.
I'm not American. But anyway. I moved to another town 100 km away from the one I grew up in.
I had no friends there and was bored so I started dating* and doing sports. I was lonely and miserable for a while until I met my wife. From this time my life started making more sense.
The change of scenery helped. Had I stayed I would probably still be single and complaining about not meeting anyone interesting.
* The dating itself was a miserable failure, but I met a woman offline by chance who didn't do online dating.
Sure. I have stopped drinking coffee because it increases stress and anxiety for me. This is the opposite of what the scientists have found according to the article.
I have a feeling that everything about food and how people digest it are dependent on the person and any generalized articles like this are completely useless.
