Thats a problem. git is version control, you are not, you must not always for every command keep track of whats happening in your directories so you can attempt some magic at resolving problems, and now reverting back to mv and cp for managing something git should do really well.
The problem most often is not remote repositories, as you say there should be no distinction if the repo is cloned from a server or from another directory. But there is. And a tons of tutorials all go through hoops to explain remoting vs local stuff.
That's quite annoying from stanford and others, I just want to study and learn, I dont want to be a member of yet another site. HTTP was not made for "members" to access content, I just want to clickety click and have a go at the lectures, notes, videos, assignments and so on. No, I dont want to send in my assignments, I dont get a diploma or certificate anyway.

Yeah thats a nice xmldict you wrote there, except it doesnt do anything good at all. Try to parse this with it, <html>hello</lol>world</html>. So much for your A* search and algorithmic knowledge.
I am no good with algorithms but would know to stop at such an idea as to make my own xmldict parser in that way. I would instead learn about parsing and the algorithms for successful parsing, instead of a half-assed approach.
