AFAIK at birth the average life expectancy was even slightly lower (30-35). At 15y it was about an extra 30-40y.

Whatever the exact numbers: definitely skewed, like you said.

No, because I want to live _much_ longer and already live longer than the average human from that era.

That's like suggesting not to use hygiene products to avoid allergies, but die younger. (We have such an example at the finnish-russian border: the russian side of locals uses less chemicals for their hygiene and has fewer allergies, the finnish side lives longer.)

Slop(py) coders don't care.

I would vote for the alternative: "Sloppy McSlopGate"

Half the crowd using GitHub ever thought about plugins that have org wide access but /promise/ not to misuse it. And years ago that included a lot of popular plugins (my POV was that those were outright stupid) -- on par with Docker in standard configuration: brain dead, works on my laptop idiocracy.

I stopped disabling plugins from "managers" that overreached from their repos only to org wide years ago. While I liked a lot of people I worked with in that institution on a personal level, I was happy not having to work with them as devs, when that institution got closed.

Some nice people behave rather dumb when it comes to tech. And than comes AI and tramples along, because there are no boundaries (See the article what they are writing about /assumed/ security boundaries. They assume things so much, it becomes physical pain to read or listen to them.)

Doesn't make sense.

As a federal system administrator I face up to 5y prison, if I misuse my permissions. (And I do not carry a weapon.)

Why would any police force be so negligible if I comes to punishment of crimes in their own ranks?

Rules? What rules?

It's utterly ridiculous. What's next? Trump deciding the outcome of each game?

Let me guess: the US won the world cup.

A nation has become a clown car.

China is supplying Russia, which is attacking an European country.

Thus, from my POV that sentiment is BS.

China is an adversary in a panda costume.

Korean manufacturers are even worse when it comes to privacy violations.

I use a Samsung too. The bloat, dark patterns and enshitification with every update are even worse.

What /new/ technology? The basically same platforms. Just smaller phones with more cameras recording everybody without consent.

I _feel_ the same, yet I want to remind everyone -- including myself -- that it's rarely the content that's the problem. (Would I openly /allow/ my kids to view everything? Hell no. Neither did my parents.)

What _is_ different? AFAIK nobody was playing with addictive aspects of a BBS and even less so in newsgroups.

A friend and I were the first to have modems at age 12. And we had access to all kind of stuff on BBS and later in newsgroups. That wasn't meant for our age group and yet there wasn't any harm done. Others in our classes didn't roam there. (They were more into drinking, smoking and stealing in real life instead)

Guess who is heavily using social media today and unreflectively repeats fake news.

"Gibbons talks ape shit" would have been a nice headline with a grammatical tripwire.

The amount of code and components in that repo baffles me.

I doubt that is anywhere near of "safe to use".

German doctors are very prone to quackery. Including their nurses.

I've overheard a nurse at a university hospital argue with patient who used tape on himself about the color of the tape. She was worried he might use the "wrong color". Again: at a university hospital, where they teach MDs. Half of them recommend homeopathic remedies

In short: quaks.

The most corrupt group is trying to control everybody else.

Metsola tried twice to favor her brother-in-law with a job that is payed 15,000-20,000€/month (the average monthly gross income in Malta, were they are from is 2100€).

The EU doesn't need such parasites.

It's not "appearances". I know all the guys I meant since university.

All of them were top notch PhDs. Physics. CS. Some were excellent teachers even before graduation. Others were at the leading edge of ML even two decades ago.

In short: it's not a superficial impression as a customer. I know their pros and cons from studying to social life during and after graduation, early career, ...

So, my POV is personal experience. Your POV is gossip?

I don't know what you're talking about.

Everybody I know, who is working for Accenture, has a lot of expertise and had outstanding degrees (not only on paper) for a reason.

If we had enough resources I would prefer working with them everyday over the surrogate counseling by an AI.

My bet: as soon as AI companies aren't able to subsidize anymore, we will see a renaissance of IT consulting.
