One of the comments that struck me on the lwn.net site is the (albeit small) possibility that someone in Russia could be running the software and unintentionally land themselves in hot water if someone discovers these images on their computer. I'm sure that's not the intended consequence, but I could be problematic.

It's still a bit jarring to me to see how far Apple embraced form over function with iOS and subsequently macOS. I remember reading the Human Interface Guidelines from the late Mac OS 9/early Mac OS X days and being taken aback by the level of detail and thought that went into those interfaces. Don't get me wrong, some things made no sense (brushed metal was... a choice) but there was a certain level of polish that I don't think exists anymore.

What's amazing to me is how I was downvoted into oblivion on a few different subreddits and forums for expressing concern about the vibe-coded nature of the project and that the author of the Mac port appeared to be using the Notepad++ name/branding without any official blessing from the project.

I know this because every Christmas Eve I hear Hans Gruber say "schiessen den fenster".

I spent a lot of time in math class playing this...

Tried to run it on macOS but it crashed on boot. Looks cool!

So, why aren't we all using ECC in 2026?

Honestly, best thing I did was ditch all that and just read the handbook, specificially chapter 17 [1]. All of my jails are now set up manually, initially using /etc/jail.conf, and now individual jail configs in /etc/jail.conf.d/.

I still use vm-bhyve [2] for my Bhyve virtual machines, but that's been rock solid for me for years.

I love this editor. The return on investment in learning vim is incredible. I'm not a programmer or even really "in" tech, but when my colleagues see me chew through a document using MacVim they're astounded.

Couldn't have come at a better time for those who are affected by their IT departments removing access to Notepad++.

Darktable. It has a hell of a learning curve, but it's one hell of a powerful raw editor with some really cool masking features. It has a reputation for being difficult to learn, but the newest release bundles a new tone mapper (AgX) that requires a whole lot less massaging than the old Filmic (and, to a lesser extent, the later Sigmoid mapper). I'm back to managing my photo libraries using plain old files and folders, and syncing them to my NAS using Syncthing. I couldn't be happier, and it doesn't cost me a dime.

Nice work! But not all of NYC. Where's the rest of Staten Island?

This is amazing. It's such a shame that Olympus and Panasonic have largely abandoned the small camera market within the M43 system. I really wish another manufacturer would step up and build something similar to the GX85, which is still one of my favorite walkaround cameras.

Boot environments saved my ass many a time in the last few years. One of my favorite features!

Just donated. I run a NetBSD instance on a VPS and on an old Lenovo mini PC that I use as a gateway/file server between my regular network and network of vintage PCs. I have two XT clones, two ATs, some 486s, a Pentium MMX, and an iMac G3 and G4. Fun hobby! I need to get NetBSD running on one of these old machines one of these days.

Easier fix might be if you aren't using /usr/src (or /usr/opt) to move the contents of /usr/share/relink into /usr/src (make sure you move it, not copy, so that /usr/share/relink is empty), and then change the /usr/src mount point in /etc/fstab to /usr/share/relink. Reboot the machine and hopefully it works. If you ran out of space during the installation, you may have to repeat sysupgrade to reinstall the 7.8 sets to get all the object files where they belong.

I remember my grandfather telling me when I was younger that many nice buildings were demolished to make way for the WTC. He worked nearby, so he saw the entire construction from start-to-finish.

I'd hate to suggest this, but I'm concerned that outlets are hesitant to critize Apple for fear of them losing access.

Go for it. I made the switch ~10 years ago and didn't regret it at all. First-class, rock solid ZFS integration. Saved my data on more than one occasion.

Always enjoyed your channel! I was literally taking notes on this video yesterday, so I really appreciate you writing the whole thing up. I recently cleaned, lubricated, and re-aligned a few 5.25 disk drives using IMD (and by some miracle it worked despite my initial frustrations) and your videos were seriously helpful. Much thanks!
