Bill Gates was in the process of building a new prototype nuclear power plant. Highlights for this design is that in a worst case scenario; it will continue working without ANY human intervention. From my understanding, it may lose efficiency but will not meltdown. That's the design philosophy in a nutshell. Prototypes were set to be built in China - until Trump blocked it as part of his trade-war initiative.

I'm sure deepfakes will be used in fake kidnappings, social engineering, scams, etc. I can't begin to imagine the scale of damage this can cause. The reality is that a "well" executed 10 second deepfake can cause public panic, etc. The potential for abuse is just too high.

Its not a matter of if, it's a matter of WHEN this is economically and technologically available to the masses. The next 5-10 years is going to be a very confusing time to be alive...

Misinformation is already a huge issue; deepfakes can only exacerbate and compound the issue in ways we can't even imagine at this time.

Imagine deepfake used to create false alibis, 911 calls, etc... That's probably not even the tip of the iceberg in coming years.

The fact we went in KNOWING it's a deepfake gave us an unmeasurable advantage/bias. For uninformed individuals that "stumble" upon this on the web, one can only imagine how it'll playout. This thought actually terrifies me... imagine a hypothetical (and conservative) 10% overall improvement AND production price reduction to this video every 6-12 months.

To the best of my knowledge: with (non-volatile) NAND; 1ms response times vs (volatile) DRAM; 1ns response times... For context; there's 1 million ns in 1 ms. They're in completely different leagues in terms of speed and they're used for very different applications.

While both benefit greatly from economy of scale; the manufacturing tolerances, equipment, etc etc used influences pricing; but I'm not an engineer... so maybe someone here can chime in on that :)

The dilemma is this... "Ignorance is bliss" - You can't be worried/stressed about problems you don't know...

What if you're consistently doing good work but have zero visibility? Then years down the road, you notice a trend of people around you getting promotions/raises/bounses more often than you? The same people that slack off & lack integrity; to name a few. As a human being with emotions... can you honestly say you won't feel resentful in your moment of realization?

I am asking as someone who's been in that situation more times than I care to admit... I do good work for myself and for the sake of doing good work; I take pride in the work I do... but as most of it was never communicated, no one knew about it and just took it's results for granted; I was bypassed for raises, promotions, etc... Was it worth it? I can't give you a answer... it's a very conflicting place to be.
