The extra 30 minutes will be spent chatting with the AI as if it's your best friend.

Abstractions are one thing, not putting any effort into learning is another. People worry about the latter.

Surely I must have seen someone do this already on Slashdot like 25 years ago. Cheers for using a recent kernel though, that's neat.

Sounds like a good usecase for WebNFC.

You probably don't need any Web hardware API for that, just WebRTC.

Having WebUSB and WebBle everywhere would allow me to ship my IoT application via web only. That would be a win for my productivity, no more messing about with app store shenanigans.

Are you really asking this? For real?

You're shooting the messenger.

Low cost ARM M series microcontrollers are ubiquitous, and they're all immensely more powerful than the lunar lander computer.

Tribes 3: Rivals is a load of fun. Flying around on jetpacks helps raise the skill ceiling.

I distinctly remember how it was the bare minimum. You'd mount a disk or open a plain text file, and there'd be a lot of strange characters that weren't decoded properly.

Professional embedded developer and Arduino afficionado here: the amount of misinformation and hot takes here is astounding. First, Arduino is aimed at making technology usable for non-engineers. The ease of use makea them a breeze for engineers though. There's nothing wrong with making something serious with Arduino as long as the project fits within the confines of Arduino.

Arduino refers to a company as well as a hardware and software platform. It doesn't only mean an ATMega based board. You can have an ESP32 based Arduino board.

Arduino boards aren't designed for high performance or very high speed signal integrity. They are designed to be easy to use by non technical people.

I see people saying stuff like the ESP IDF and FreeRTOS are easy enough to use for most people. First, Arduino on ESP32 is built on the FreeRTOS based IDF, so people who would rather use FreeRTOS don't exactly know what they are talking about. Second, anyone who thinks FreeRTOS is easy enough to use for Arduino's core audience is delulu.

Use the proper tool for the job. Arduino is for beginners, non-technical people, and for projects with undemanding requirements. Stop pretending that it's a half baked solution for engineers; that completely misses the point of Arduino.

How is asking for user consent insufficient? I smell Apple propaganda.

You're not wrong, but it's also true that China is exploiting our liberal, rule of law way of doing things in the USA.

As for a record of doing harm, mobile apps like douyin (China tiktok) have enabled a total police state in China. Say the wrong thing in a private conversation in an app, and the police will invite you to have tea.

Try being critical of China on tiktok and see how long it takes before you get banned. This isn't a hypothetical, it has already happened.

I'm seeing a lot of "censorship is bad" propaganda coming from the shills. This resonates with liberal minded people who are against censorship.

Now, that's not to say that most people here are shills or wrong for being against censorship. However they are unwittingly being coopted just as anti-racists were when China deflected any responsibility for a lab leak.

This is post hoc nonsense. China blocked US tech companies so that they could copy what the US companies do without any threat of superior competition.

I used to be an engineer at Lennox.. HVAC is a mature and boring industry, so I can understand how it doesn't usually generate much interest among people who are attracted to startups. However, just because the industry is very mature doesn't mean the incumbents aren't innovating. I haven't been at Lennox for several years now. I just searched their heatpump offerings, and they look comprehensive.

I'm not sure what to tell you, but good luck.

I do not buy this. You're equating security updates with UI changes. Pointless UI changes get a lot more frustrating as you get older. What we really need is software with really long support versions that minimize bullshit churn in UI and usability.
