Technically yes but that doesn’t mean they deserve a podium to spew their hate

edit: on second thought this is way too obvious ragebait

Thanks, that’s exactly what I meant! It only makes sense now because we know exactly how it works, it makes no sense to a first-time user.

I feel like other commenters are being obtuse on purpose and avoid the point? Or did I just not word it correctly

I hate the word mansplaining but this comment could go into the dictionary as an example.

The point was that this bothered me when I used git for the very first time (what is it like 15 years ago at this point) and indeed did not understand it yet. Hope your comment made you feel better about yourself at least.

I feel like you’re either misunderstanding the entire thread or being obtuse on purpose.

The point is that “Delta compression using up to 10 threads” means nothing to most users - it’s also not a progress thing. Hide it unless the user does -v or something.

The point is that if it's useless information for 99.9% of users, what's it doing in the UI?

This has bothered me ever since I was using git for the first time: what do you mean I have to 'add' and 'commit' and then 'push'? I just want to save my stuff, this is SO many steps.

If you make a very rough estimate of the emotional maturity of a person that abuses a neighbor for not “buying American”, I think the answer become reasonably clear

Oh damn, I love this one. I’ve been vibe coding a ‘public benefit’ app on the side that has a few hundred users but never thought of doing something for an actual non-profit.

Care to elaborate on your process? Curious how you approach them and come up with the best path forward with limited time (assuming you have a full time job as well on the side). Thanks!

Big fan of the accountability phase, or the “find out” phase:

Engage in high-risk, uncalculated actions and be prepared to face the inevitable, data-driven consequences.

That was my main takeaway as well. How do you do this without any shame? My man is emitting an amount of CO2 on par with an small African country

The very basic (but incorrect) assumption that the “grind never stops” people rely on is

more hours == more productivity

It’s not. If you’re sleep deprived you’ll produce shit, which you’ll probably have to redo later. Sleep properly, produce more in less hours.

But hey, at least your colleagues think you’re busy because you’re last to leave redoing your shitty work!

Edit: read The Brain at Rest by Jebelli, don’t work yourself to death

Only one I have issues with is Ticketmaster, other than that I forget that it’s even on all the time

How much free time do you think the average person has to learn and set all this up?

“You’re giving these companies your data and then dare to be angry when you lose it? Just get a degree in computer science and host it yourself!!1! I am very smart”

Keep them?? But how else would you keep devs working hard if there are no mass layoffs to be afraid of all the time??

To be fair, if they're actually buying it for the whole sportswashing thing and not for the short-term cash profits, could it maybe be a good thing for the games? Better games == more effective sportswashing?

Either way, human rights journalists lose.

> But they don't necessarily care about the same 20%.

Did you write that entire comment based on the headline only?
