I imagine they will have to do so. I cannot see how having a major antagonist group that uses women as breeding equipment and plot to undermine and take over the entire galaxy that traces its origins to Islam will be palpable for a modern commercial enterprise.
You are perpetuating a nationalistic flamewar in this thread. We don't rock the boat when it comes to China or the CCP on HN. Please stop, and please don't do it again.
Please don't do this here. There's nothing new to say about Chinese concentration camps and political repression, so the discussions are tedious and therefore off topic. Also, the question of whether the Chinese government can be criticized here has been decided on HN for many years and is in the FAQ: https://news.ycombinator.com/newsfaq.html.
Edit: note the person who replied to me gets to the crux of how the Chinese government is treated with child gloves on this website.
I guess I don't see the point of this. This isn't going to be anything about needing a nicotine fix, I imagine if you're trying to stop smoking vaping and slowly cutting back the nicotine intake is an obviously better solution. If you're trying to stop vaping I can't see why on Earth you would go back to smoking something.
Also I thought self promotion was banned here. Funny how Dang has the time to stomp out any hint of discomfort with Chinese genocide but cannot do the bare minimum when it comes to getting rid of ads for cigarettes.
When I was a child, Smear the Queer was a game all the boys played. Fag was a commonly used slur. When I was in high school the state of California told gay couples to go fuck themselves. Societal progress is a wonderful thing to see.
Yes but that's my point. So many facets of society just have this rotting sword of Damocles hanging over them. Academia, the private sector - at this point is there any real difference?
We really are evolving into an Eloi Morlock society. It's amazing that a bunch of presumably smart and well educated people with access to resources would be incentivized to conclude this is the best way to spend their marginal dollars in the world that currently exists.
the Doyle estate argues that, while they admittedly lost the copyright to all of the Holmes stories written before 1923—i.e., most of them—into the public domain back in 2014, it’s only in the latter stories that they still have the rights to that Doyle began to give Holmes recognizable human emotions. (A reaction, they argue, to Doyle wrestling with his grief over the loved ones he lost during World War I.) Said feelings—like, say, being worried about his (non-canonical) sister Enola—are thus a new element Doyle only introduced in those later stories, which makes them trademarked elements still controlled by the family
The fact that nonsense like this legally credible in one of those things where I feel the need to scream but do not have a legal mouth to scream with. It's strange how these rich people legacy estates can seem like such parasites. Looking forward to the Rowling estate attacking all of fantasy in the centuries to come.
The engineering elite of Silicon Valley may know more than most about building software,” Karp wrote. “But they do not know more about how society should be organized or what justice requires.
The utter lack of self awareness is beyond shameful. As far as I can see Palantir wants to do with tech what Blackwater did with the armed forces and Peter Thiel is just a smarter version of Erik Prince.
