> Aaronson has worked for OpenAI and probably has stock options.

IIRC he explicitly stated that he doesn't.

At this point the term "AI psychosis" is the more apt label for AI skeptics. Here we have literal Fields medalists vouching for correctness and relative importance of the result, but who cares, "I don't believe the result at all". Just pure denial of reality.

Switzerland is the closest you can get to USA without leaving Europe. Taxes in Zurich are lower than in the Bay Area, at will employment, healthcare that is primarily funded by flat fees rather than income tax, etc. Even the constitution was originally inspired by the American one.

So are you buying Roblox hand over fist? Didn't think so.

It's easy to talk big, it's hard to beat the supposedly stupid, myopic market.

A human representing the company should be physically present in the provider's office to perform such an action or what? Otherwise you would just grant your agent a way to impersonate a human.

> IIRC no fewer than 5 naval drones attacked the Moskva missile carrier at once, and successfully sank it eventually.

That's a hallucination, Moskva was by all accounts sunk by a couple of conventional anti-ship cruise missiles.

> Sorry, but maybe some people should feel shame sometimes

Yes you definitely should try that.

There is no connection between profits and dividends, some monstrously profitable companies pay little to no dividends and return money to shareholders via buybacks. The act of doing an acquisition by itself also does not affect profits.

The reason Atlassian doesn't "declare a profit" is that they are not profitable - they pay a lot with SBC, thus diluting shareholders year after year and not returning anything.

The author is the former lead developer of the Rust's LSP server, so it seems natural to have a preference for languages that would allow him to do a better job. Slow compilation (including incremental) is one of the most common complaints about Rust, despite a lot of effort spent on optimizations there. I think it would be good if more people are aware of the inherent downsides of maximizing expressiveness.

In Switzerland most people rent, in Zurich/Geneva it's more than 80% of inhabitants, doesn't help one bit. I kid you not, we have the renter association that is working tirelessly to prevent new construction.

This point is irrelevant when discussing capabilities. It's like saying that your brain is literally just a bunch of atoms following a set of physics laws. Absolutely true but not particularly helpful. Complex systems have emergent properties.

How much tax breaks and subsidies did Brin and Page get? I'd think it's close to zero. And apparently they are asked to give half of their wealth (https://x.com/garrytan/status/2009776299666223265) in a "one time" tax (of course we both know people like you won't be satisfied with it being one time, because look, still homeless people). I'd also leave without blinking, this level of expropriation is absurd.

But they can do that regardless of what arguments the company makes to the antitrust authorities.

> They didn't because the purchase price would be lower

He said that alright, but what's his source of that information?
gizmondo
·il y a 7 mois·discuss
Why the price would be lower? Presumably the price was already agreed upon. Having a provision in the contract that the price is reduced if this argument is made to the antitrust authorities makes no sense.

I now realized that I recently saw some old tweets from this guy where he first opposed this merger and then celebrated the cancellation of the deal. So it seems he's just grasping at straws to look less like an idiot.

... You want users to risk their money to make your product better? Might as well just remove the report button, so we're back at the model being poisoned.

Kofman among others. He has been saying for a while that "the war is on a negative trajectory for Ukraine", i.e. they are currently losing, no?
gizmondo
·l’année dernière·discuss
I think that's probably a good estimate for the Russian side, while 200k casualties total for Ukraine is a joke. Aren't even their official figures for wounded in the 400k range?

The military experts I listen to all more or less agree that the focus on territory is just wrong. It's a war of attrition unsustainable in the long run for both sides, the question is who runs out of resources first (or if there is some sort of ceasefire before that). Germany famously lost such a war a century ago without losing any territory!

I mean, are Zelensky or Syrskyi willing to share truthful information with you in private? If so - good for you, otherwise I'm not sure what "first hand" reports you can use. I'm relying mostly on data about obituaries collected on both sides as proxy for true figures.
