I don't believe anyone wants to create a new legal system, but the reality is the vast majority of sexual assault cases aren't resolved in court due to existing social issues. These "judges, jurries and prosecutors" are just people who don't want to associate with potentially dangerous people regardless of the legal outcome. Beyond legal consequences to crime there have always been social consequences too - I think the major difference compared to the past is that these companies put out press releases instead of just blacklisting someone and moving on.
And in the years since we have killed millions of people in Vietnam and hundreds of thousands in the Middle East and we’re currently bankrolling what many people consider to be a genocide in Palestine.
There have been several successful actions, but we’re talking about the net impact not specific instances.
Military violence can make the world more unstable too. Especially when many civilians are killed. There is no way to actually determine if military action taken by the US has been a net positive for the world.
I've been using ocaml-lsp-server with nvim-lspconfig and it's been great, I'm wondering what issues you've had? From my perspective the ecosystem is evolving pretty quickly!
But if you truly find it boring it’s still going to be difficult to frame it that way. Picking up too much work you don’t want to do can make you resent a job very quickly.
I’m not trying to justify any of it, just pointing out that theft is a completely accepted part of culture in the US. Don’t get me started on civil forfeiture…
This is visually shocking, but the sheer amount of money taken from workers by wage theft eclipses this issue completely. Theft is normalized at all levels of American society.
Except the RIAA isn’t a starving artist and the actual artists make practically nothing from streaming services - the starving artist’s needs are already compromised by large corporate interests.
That is a very anti-human understanding of how an employee should be treated.
If that’s the case this person should never answer an email outside of working hours without getting paid for it. Any time they spend thinking about work outside of working hours should be compensated as well. If there is a work emergency she should not get involved unless they will get overtime.
Wage theft is one of the most prevalent forms of theft in the United States. Employers are literally underpaying workers for the amount of time they spend working, which to me seems even more lazy, dishonest and delusional than taking a 30 minute break.
As long as the work is getting done there is no problem with breaks.
70k per year is less than we spend keeping someone in prison, which is where many people believe we should put drug addicts. The truth is it’s not about the money, people just don’t want to see other people suffering where they live.
As a society, even spending all this money, we are failing to help some of our most vulnerable citizens. It’s quite telling that conversations about social safety nets always become about money rather than reducing harm effectively.
Yes things like Windows, Racket, Amazon, Tesla, Apple, Android… these are already words that existed however there is clearly room to share meaning based on context. When you’re taking about lisp and you mention “chicken” it’s clear you’re not talking about the animal.
I am honestly surprised how many people in HN comments have this same complaint over and over again. Not everything needs to be directly searchable by name only.
