Can confirm the corruption that exists. I was in academia for some time and I had an advisor who pushed for the publication of a paper I was coauthoring, even when we found out that the methodology didn't work at all. They pressed on, deciding to misrepresent the results by leaving out certain findings - and I chose to have my name removed from the paper.
I knew it would cause drama to reveal the real reason I wanted to be taken off the paper, so I made up something else. It was strange because they couldn't possibly understand why I would not want to be associated with that.
Meanwhile my other advisor would also choose to leave out relevant statistical findings which provided evidence directly against their hypotheses.
