I think the U.S. has bigger problems. China's problem is essentially the same.
It matters much less to aspire to either of these goals, when the reality faced by either group of kids is such that, they'll probably be losers 99.9% of the time, no matter what they wanted.
Doctor, Police, Firefighter, Soldier. Doesn't matter. Society will suck the life out of them any way it can.
