I loved VimFX and am in the same boat - It was really the best browsing experience.
I remember being upset for months when they killed XUL.
Wish Mozilla would finally start being their old self again and create a browser that is truly customizable. Call it Firefox Pro, I would happily pay for that. But instead we get “Colorways”..
Whenever I read these kind of salaries I feel like I’m doing something fundamentally wrong.
30yo, European based with lousy 60k/year. With the rising real estate prices I probably won’t even be able to afford a house in my lifetime.
(Except maybe with a working SO - but even then until I’m too old for work)
I’d say if it’s it just about earning more money maybe work overtime for a little salary boost. Hard to beat that $/h.
I don’t work as a Designer but I do dabble in web development and design in my free time.
Would gladly take a look at some designs and lend my eyes for some critique/advice.
Asking myself the same question, it seems hard while starting out especially for B2B.
A “good way” seems to be to cold call / cold e-mail businesses that would benefit from the product. This is sadly considered illegal in germany. The only way to get in contact with them would be if they sign up for a mailinglist, which needs a lot of marketing money. Maybe someone knows other good ways?
Attending events, conferences, etc. is not possible either during the pandemic.
2020 doesn’t seem to be a good year trying to start a company :(
I love your mindset and I am not too far off myself.
For me it’s not about being able to buy luxuries but to “buy time”.
Time is - in my opinion - the most valuable resource that we have. Working for the man is trading your time with money given a specific conversation ( your salary ). I’d like to shoot to have a better conversation (I’m EU based and salaries here are not so great compared to the US) while not being tied to a specific location. With the plus of being able to work on whatever you fancy.
I think becoming rich is less about spending that money but more about the financial independence. So it’s not about not going to work but to don’t have to go to work.
Can you explain a bit more about the migration process?
I’ve read that the “most straightfoward way” is to create a new GmbH and transfer all the IP away from the Einzelunternehmen. It seemed kinda complicated though. (As everything is when dealing with the Finanzamt IMO)
My tax adviser told me I should go for a Einzelunternehmen (especially use the Kleingewerbe during the first year) because of the reduced costs (registration costs 25EUR and thats it) and not having the overhead.
I’ve heard that registering a UG costs about ~500EUR + yearly costs of around 1500 EUR.
Given that this is during a beginning to try things out - without having too much money laying around to play with it.
Would definitely like to know about risks before getting myself into it.
1+ for the book. It gives enough inspiration for a clean look. The guy also worked together with Adam on Tailwindcss which is a nice class-based css framework which makes designing website a lot of fun. Especially because it gives some “constraints” i.e. only a handful of size options. Makes the whole design more consistent in my opinion.
I used to do a lot of web design back in ~2004-2008 before i became a developer, and while i like that the web nowadays is more accessible the design of today lacks individuality. The brand design is more shaped by the choice of colors and fonts imho.
