It doesn't seem that supprising. You need a certain level of narcissism/sociopathy to have the drive to become a billionaire in the first place.

>are we going to do any better next time

The US is completely fucked if another pandemic hits within the next ~20 years. Or at least until a large percentage of the anti-vaxers created in the covid pandemic age out of the population. Having a decent response when half the country is going to be on team virus is not possible.

> Have we put measures in place to ensure that accurate information about the disease, including appropriate disease-specific hygiene measures, are rapidly disseminated.

This is irrelevant if half the country has the through process of "goverment says it therefore it is fake news bill gates microchip conspiracy".

A foreign national buying one of the largest American media platforms and turning it into a right-wing propaganda machine should probably concern you at least somewhat.

There was literally never a time where mainstream medical advice was "masks do nothing".

Replacing work does not neccessarily mean replacing workers.

Do you really think e.g Opus 4.6 is less reliable than the average facebook/x post (which is where most people get their news from today)?

People already just blindly believe whatever is put in front of them by the algorithm gods. Even the "@Grok is this real" spam on every X post is an improvement.

China is currently a more morally virtuous country than the US.

Yes, how do we optimize social interaction out of our lives, maybe we can all live in VR with simulated girlfriends and never have to interact with another human again.

I think the bigger issue is I doubt any company is going to blow a trillion dollars to send a person to Mars.

It's okay to realise some things are just beyond us right now. There is plenty of other things humans can do with their time.

I would rather the geniuses of earth work on anti-aging or cancer research than wish fulfillment of a 50 year old man child.

Climate hasn't been a real topic of discussion since the Obama administration.

Because the negative effects of unrestricted internet access on children (and adults) is becoming more evident.

Ok, so what do you do when your child visits a friends house and they have unrestricted access to the internet?

You get plenty from the $20 a month claude subscription. Just don't expect to leave it running on its own for hours a day.

No one is forcing anyone to bet on prediction markets. People use polymarket fully aware of the near certainty of insider trading.

Highly motivated people will use whatever tools they have to get better at something, whether they have a textbook, the internet or a LLM to use.

The skill of the very top programmers will continue to increase with the advent of new tools.

This is the kind of brainrot that lets people like Trump get into power in the first place. Removing all agency from the American people by pretending that "both sides are the same". It's just pathetic.

You have built yourself a safe little cocoon, protected from the messy imperfect reality of the world, where sometimes you have to make compromises and you don't always get what you want.
