Sorry not being clear enough. Yes I was kind of asking why they didnt try simpler options. When you look at their paper on Haystack you see that it's essentially a constant local database.
If you're familiar with thumbnail display you know Facebook has Haystack for efficient image serving. It goes very low end. Sparkey or CDB or BAM (mentioned in this post) could be much less complex and can do similar work. Why did they go Haystack route I dont get it.
can you please expand on this? everybody says C-CORP for a startup for flexibility, investor trust and so on. OTOH, C-CORPs are costlier and more complex. but you're an INC and "real" startups as DBAs! if you make blog post on this that would be great.
QT, really? Using a framework for a must-be-power-efficient device on a much-slower-than-desktop cpu. I'm not a QT or C++ expert and wondering outcomes of using QT for webOS. There is absolutely a hit on power and speed but how much?
Email nor anything related to core email protocols do not need to be fixed or redesigned. It's doing what it was supposed to be used for and still doing it very well. Over the years desktop and web mail people have added too much and its 70s design idea of anyone can send mail to any other's inbox (btw, creative idea at the time worked till 2000s) have cooperatively decreased its usage.
We still need this universal and mature protocol but we should do a different thing for communication. period.
Hard as in writing code in three different languages. Apart from that I think tech community giving too much credit for Apple and especially Google. They could have fixed this native vs html5-js-css thing two versions ago.
I've searched a little while and found that it has no support for camera (or sensors) in mobile devices. It looks like HAXE/NME is heavily geared towards game development.
Actually they don't have much choices on dropping some specific email features to make UI better. Anyways I think it's just like MS Metro. One cannot say OMG this is cool as we say with Apple properties but people continue to use those (inferior) UIs.

kaolinite: honestly you should have a few friends over there to really decide you want or not. A reason maybe as a user you've absolute control of your inbox.
Tusulog complements email and more but we honestly don't think email can replaced completely. It's a simple product that sends and receives messages between people. What it does:
First it turns the basic idea of email upside down that's anybody can send mail to anybody's inbox. With Tusulog messages from people you don't know goes to Public Pipe and also you can disable it altogether. BTW, your friends can send to your inbox directly.
Second with email you apply the filter after getting the message. With Tusulog you apply the filter (pipe) before. PG, taking your example literally: You create a TODO Pipe with public_key THEPUBLICKEYOFPGSTODOPIPE. You give this public_key to people you want. They can send message to that pipe in other words they can put a task into your ToDo list. They can do it using Tusulog UI or Tusulog API.
This is just the beginning guys! Big web properties are becoming more like a TV Network. They interrupt you with an ad because they think that if their name is not some power of 10 then they have to use this TV-like experience. Maybe they're right but if this "platformization" thing catches on then you will _not_ have option to block them out!

Interesting analysis. I think now Facebook has become when-AOL-bought-Time-Warner-big. As a new social network startup founder I'm happy about what Facebook released. We've launched before Google+ and then we saw G+ has bombarded with features and now FB. They both are becoming much more confusing. Everything for everybody.
Interestingly Istanbul-drivers are not liked at all in other parts of Turkey as well. When asked they say they have to otherwise they will not make it.
Quora is hardly going mainstream because mainstream cannot ask the questions that Quora elite would answer. Not that they don't have the ability but they don't care! If it does ever it'll be called Yahoo Answers.
