Lol that makes sense, never thought of commenting out the command but I guess I do something similar. If i realize i dont want a command yet I enter it with a trailing `\`, then `CTRL+C` to get back to an empty prompt.

I did this a few months back, and i was very happy with how easy it was to remove my information from Google. At that time though I had to get the content removed from each site, and then i had to notify google that the excerpts had changed due to my requests for the websites to remove my personal information. Its really nice to see that Google is now moving towards supporting a request to remove PII from results, without having to deal with individual websites, who almost always are scam sites who will try to get you to 'subscribe for premium profile control to hide specific content'. Never give these people a dime. Google processed my requests very quickly and the content just can't be found using their search engine anymore.

Bing, on the other hand, was an absolute nightmare. After emailing for around a month with MSoft support, they claimed they removed content that was still showing up, and still is showing up to this day. This content doesn't even exist on the pages that Bing is showing excerpts from, and hasn't for around a year now. It became very clear to me that Bing had no effective process in place to carry out content removal requests, so I eventually gave up. Unfortunate, because alternative search engines like Ddgo and Brave show results from Bing, IIRC.

I guess you can't place all the blame on these sites. I also found out my state releases the entire registered voter database for anyone to download online, without any reason or identification required. So if you're a registered voter, it is possible that the information you provided to register is public and available online anyways. This includes full name, email, address, and phone number - if I remember correctly. It's been some time since I looked through the database though. I found my entire family within it, and it receives quarterly updates. I would not be surprised if the government was at least one primary source of information for PII scam sites in the first place.

I understand the confusion, but it makes sense if you look at the history. Qt was initially released by Trolltech into the open source community. There has been some acquisitions and the reason people are on edge about Qt removing open source support is because it’s initial foundation was laid by contributions of the open source community. Several fantastic applications and even linux distributions have used Qt as their primary GUI framework for years. There are commercial licensing available for closed-source projects that would permit a company to use Qt in proprietary software. There have been talks in the past of making the framework entirely closed source, but this was met with instant push back from the community that has made countless major contributions to Qt and implemented countless applications using the framework.

I would hope any business that acquired such a project would respect the foundation laid by the open source community through their contributions over the last two decades. After all, the reason Qt is hailed as such a fantastic framework is because it has been collaborated on for years by the same community that used it to create their own applications. The heavy use of the framework is what makes it valuable. KDE is an expample of an entire open source distribution that uses Qt much like gnome uses the GTK.

I agree, but I dunno maybe this is more new school than I realize. I'm willing to accept the possibility that other people have been exposed to conventions I haven't. On my personal projects I stick to this convention though, it just feels like the right thing to do.

Gross. I very much dislike snap. Thanks for sharing though, i will probably just have to postpone the jump to 22.04 a bit longer. Im doing fine on 20.04 without any snap packages.

Very disappointing news.

Yeah I'd say give it a shot and see if you like it. I hopped for years until I landed on Kubuntu and I've never had the urge to leave, it just feels right for me. I still play with VMs sometimes to explore, but Kubuntu has been my home since 18.04 was released. If you're looking to switch to the next LTS, might as well wait a few weeks for 22.04. If you're not sure mess around with a Kubuntu VM until 22.04 is available, then you can make a choice based on that experience.

KDE connect is also very cool, if you give it a shot definitely check it out. I really enjoy the customization plasmashell offers, and it's all integrated very well. You can also set window behaviors to keep on top and remember scale / position, which i use when debugging GUI applications so I can click around my IDE without having to shuffle windows. There's just a ton of great functionality to explore.

I use Konsole. Yakuake for quick access. Yakuake just runs Konsole in a drop-down application made with Qt. I like Qt and KDE a lot, so I'm probably biased in that sense.

Ive been using tmux with these two for years. It's everything I need and more. Ive never tried windows terminal, i usually only boot up the windows PC for gaming, and honestly once EAC and Proton work together I won't even need to do that anymore. I'll have to check out windows terminal next time im on that PC though, thanks for sharing. Always curious to hear what others are using.

I use vim or vim emulation everywhere. I really miss it when I don't have it. I have not tried emacs yet because I'm just not ready to take on a new tool right now and I have a decent vimrc going that I really like. I've heard good things though.

I think it's good to be familiar with a console based text editor for those times when you just can't have a GUI editor. I end up in the console so much that I ultimately just decided to emulate vim wherever possible to keep things consistent, and I've gotten much better with vim over the years as a result. I don't think there's anything wrong with using a certain text editor though, just use whatever works for you.

I also found LFS pricing too steep, so I just spun up a gitea and grabbed 150GB block storage for $10/month. Kinda funny actually, since doing this I've slowly migrated all my personal projects off github and gitlab and i no longer have private repos on either site because I don't need them. I pay $5/mo for the server running gitea, which grants me as many private repos as i want with 50GB base storage. Much more cost effective, and I'll honestly probably never use 150GB so a lot of peace of mind there. Backups are managed by my cloud service for $1/mo.

But I guess I don't use a lot of the features a business would need, so I'm only speaking for personal projects. I dunno, I've never actually looked at collaboration features for gitea.

This is what I used in college. It works great, but its much slower and more tedious to use compared to markdown code blocks. At one point I switched from using google docs to using the export to pdf feature on a static site generator because I was writing documents with a ton of code blocks and inline code formatting. It saved me a ton of time highlighting code and clicking about in the side panel.

I know there are LaTeX addons that let you do things like $$\frac{1}{2}$$ and then render the entire document. Makes me wonder what it would take to do something similar for code.

Yep, I would just cancel. Problem solved. I don't watch enough TV to even consider not being able to share a streaming service with my immediate family, and I think they would all agree. There's nothing wrong with the current model of limiting active screens. This is a greedy move for Netflix and if it's implemented it would completely change my opinion of the value of their service. I would sooner just watch youtube videos for the 30-60 minutes a night that I spend with the TV on.

Sounds like he broke some kinda of NDA which he probably signed himself, resulting in removal from the beta program and being let go from his position. That kinda sucks, because it seems his content did have a positive spin to it and it doesnt seem like he meant to hurt anyone or the company.

I don't see whats wrong with the action taken though. He probably agreed to these terms and then he broke them. Whether he was aware that he was going against his own agreement or not is out of the question. I don't like Tesla as a company or a car manufacturer (nothing personal, I just wouldnt buy their cars) and I agree that this response was probably to be expected by anyone who was aware of the terms surrounding their employment and the internal beta access that position grants them.

Curious - is your XPS13 touch screen or 4k? I called and they insisted the XPS13 only had 32GB RAM options for touch or 4k screens. I don't want either of those things, so im SOL i guess.
