> The biggest risk that this company has is that Cloudflare (in all reality) should just buy them or reimplement it. It’s the type of product cloudflare would make, that’s for sure.

The same thing is being said on HN about all kind of network software, but tell me one software that Cloudflare is really known for except its cdn ? None.

HN is really a strong echo chamber and some people believe Cloudflare and Stripe are going to be the leader in all software areas. (Even though Cloudflare is not the leading CDN and Stripe is not the leading payment processor). They are both amazing companies but they won't fix all problems of the world. I would even argue that they won't even solve more than their current core domains

> It makes me believe Zuckerberg is completely surrounded by yes-men

I feel like the opposite. Zuck is the only one to believe in the metaverse and as a result people who worked on the communication did it badly without a lot of conviction. He is in a pretty comfortable position, one of the richest people on earth doing 20% of growth every year. And still he wants to make a big risky bet like this one. I'm not really in favor of the metaverse but history has shown us that Zuck is pretty successful at things he wants to do

When you are accepted at YC you are already a team which is autonomous and capable. With or without Bookface information things will not change much. Maybe you can save an afternoon because the information is easier to access and already curated. But nothing life changing for sure.

What really is important is connection to other people, when you are starting a B2B saas companies for example the people you are talking with on BookFace, are all potential customers, and can make your first customers easier to find.

> likely more powerful than the vast majority of US cities, the vast majority of small countries

Indeed there are not a lot of countries/cities that are wealthy/powerful enough to send people in space
