I hear this and I keep wondering what I’m missing. My productivity has shot through the roof over the last year as a result of having these tools. I’ve been able to unlock projects that I’ve wanted to do for years.
We moved DemandSphere from AWS to Hetzner for many of the same reasons back in 2011 and never looked back. We can do things that competitors can’t because of it.
I've always gotten the sense from McCarthy that he was keenly aware that civilization is not just something to take for granted and that there is always something dangerous at the edges that needs to be carefully guarded against.
The whole idea is super creepy, literally vampiric. What would be far better if the tech worked would be to archive your own blood when you're at an age that you like and use that 10-20 years down the road.
Totally agreed on containers but I’ve noticed so many developers promptly ignore using the containers that are set up for them when developing locally. Then days are wasted again on deployment issues down the road.
