[Premature sense of completeness]
Sums it all. I'd also add that such negative behavior is encouraged in our society to the point where praise is given for anything said, which is not even done yet. Premature achievers as well indeed take the idea of making the first step further down the perdition road and assume it's indeed even better to announce it publicly. I've always felt that speaking of what I plan to achieve is worthless because I knew I was seeking some gratification behind it, which sucked because why would you seek praise for what you haven't done yet?
The government can't afford giving 121$ to the needy but still, can't tax the billionaires and doesn't hesitate spending it on drones and rockets. We're becoming a joke in terms of standards of living, people can't pay for college nor buy the food they want, but how is that improved? Scrapping food aid programs!
Climate change as stated is not of course the main cause of wars, but its increasingly becoming one. Fighting for resources is inevitable, even between sages conflict would arise on who is entitled to what. Wait to see these lunatic world leaders shifting their starvation from oil to water. As mentioned it's already happening. To maximize the chaos politicians play this as a card for their agenda, as scarcity reigns, they will use it to scrap vote. There was an article mentioned earlier on HN about a city in India that has completely ran out of drinkable water. I'd say things look pretty grim, even for the optimist.
"First lab-grown burger, created by a team in the Netherlands at a cost of €250,000 - largely due to the time and labour needed to turn millions of tiny cells into meat". I understand there is a cost to research, but still, I'm speechless at the costs of this burger.
I don't agree with the idea that rats size is exaggerated in NYC. I have seen some at a building under construction at night that left me perplexed. A rat on steroids I'd say, walking like a pitbull..
Regardless of Spotify or not, Apple has become a state of the art bloodsucker while delivering flat out products. Making the switch to Android has never been more convenient.
Not really. But remember the 1.2 Million guy is married. Sounds like an awful relationship since his partner laughed at him when he mentioned finding a more satisfying career with half the pay ( that's still 500k a year). He sounds trapped in this clusterfuck of either living in misery and keeping a luxurious "normal" lifestyle or seeking novelty and ending up in court with divorce procedures, loss of wealth, custody and a fresh start from zero. If I was this dude, I would take the red pill, but hey, who said shifting from blissful ignorance to brutal reality was gonna be that easy?
Thanks for this "Down the rabbit hole" article, that led me to the innocence project, the Stockholm syndrome [condition that causes hostages to develop a psychological alliance with their captors as a survival strategy during captivity], Patty Hearst Trial, the SLA and the life of psychiatrist Joel Fort. You have made my day :D
