I'm thinking of quitting in January and moving to New Zealand (already have a visa) for a year then Ireland for a year.

Im definitely afraid of the state of the industry after 2 years of contracting work and breaking back in at my current salary (160k) since my goal is to retire early. The opportunity cost of a life well lived vs preparing myself to live a better life in 20+ years is a really difficult decision to make

I only just realized that the site is actually https://glass.photo/, not photo.glass. I can't edit the comment now, but the suggested domain in the original comment leads to some spam site. Don't recommend visiting it

Agreed, once Instagram started favoring reels/video, I stopped posting my photography there.

Ive been looking at using Photo.glass, but the subscription cost puts me off a bit emotionally after having been told to believe that 'social media is free' from the tech oligarchs. Logically though, I know that it theoretically attracts a higher bar of photographers who are willing to pay entry/support a new form of ad-free internet through that subscription - Similar to the idea of paid search engines.

I read a comment on here a while back that highlighted EoL care as the main way The Machine has to sap resources between generations, and it makes a lot more sense when looked at through that lens. I don't see it going away any time soon since its a guaranteed process for every person that moves wealth away from the lower/middle classes into the industry at a grand scale.

This is almost exactly the path I went down as well, except on a shorter timeline.

However, I believe Zen Buddhism is one of the more ritualistic versions, as opposed to 'Secular Buddhism', which removes the spiritual aspect for a more personal philosophical take on some of the core principals.

A couple of the principals of Secular Buddhism resonate with me in particular:

- Karma is not some metaphysical storage of actions, but instead just consequences. If you constantly speed everywhere, eventually you'll probably end up with a ticket - Thats your "karma" (consequences) of your own actions you chose to take.

- Rebirth is instead interpreted as the rebirth of the self, in that each living moment you are not the same person you were a moment ago. The idea is that in striving to be a better person, you are 'reborn' as a better version of yourself in each moment which compounds over time. Almost like the "1% rule" where your goal is to be 1% better in some aspect than you were yesterday.

Im curious what you dont like about the dashboard? Ive been using Actual since the day it went open sourced, and the Custom Reports really make the 'dashboard' whatever I want it to be.

Theres a couple tiny things I wish would be implemented that Ive suggested on Github, but the core is solid.
