I'm in formation for ordained ministry in a Christian tradition, and something that's really emphasised is the need to say the 'Daily office' – two short services at the beginning and end of the day. Ideally with other people, but in the end you often being alone.

It felt like busy work at the start, but it's a surprisingly powerful way of focussing the day upon a particular intention – in my case, putting everything I do in the day into the context of my religious tradition.

Personally I've always struggled with habits and routine, but I've now got quite a powerful experience of what persistence can do, with a fairly small commitment in time.

I've got 1050 books all catalogued in LibraryThing. I find it quite worthwhile – I can search my library, useful if you have an extensive reference collection on a particular topic. And if I'm out at a bookshop wondering if I have a book already, I can check! :)

Did you know you can rearrange the buttons for the touchbar? System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Customise Control Strip.

My bugbear was hitting the siri button by mistake, I swapped that for a 'do not disturb' button which is harmless when pressed.

I usually use my Macs until I feel an upgrade is worth it (I can sometimes get five years out one), and then upgrade and give the old one away to someone who could use it. The cost for me is really that I'm not going to want to keep my current MBP (bought at the end of 2017) for as long as I usually would, just because they keyboard sucks.

I absolutely agree, they should offer a significant discount to people trading them back in to get a replacement model.

exFAT works on MacOS >= 10.6.5, Windows and with this announcement hopefully shortly on Linux. I'd say it counts as a modern file system too - only released in 2006.

I agree with all of this, but I'd add:

5. Visibility

A physical library can be browsed, including by a visitor, and serve a useful social purpose.

I often find it interesting to see what books someone has on their shelves, and it can lead to interesting discussions. I can't recall a time when I've discussed the contents of a Kindle library with someone.
