This makes zero sense.

Same, in Paris we've encountered the same hour-long "where's the waiter"

This doesn't make sense.

My last trip to Paris was 1 year ago and it was pretty bad compared to NYC, Los Angeles, and San Francisco for the average tourist - especially at night.

Source? How does it not sound plausible?

It has nothing to do with credit card processing fees, or data-mining.

Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile want you to connect a bank account to further tie an identity to a phone number / account.

This comes at request of the government. They do not want anonymous cellular users.

The funny thing is Product Marketing Managers, to boost sign-up numbers, completely omit this step in certain regions like India, Eastern Europe, etc.

Agreed, it literally looks like a slot machine app...

It's a boilerplate response for pro-China comments.

Rest in Peace Kevin, I read your The Art of Human Hacking in 7th grade after learning about you from The Screen Savers TV show.

Too young

CSS selectors has been common for the scrapers I've been using for years.

This honestly is standard web scraping but these projects always catch my attention.

You're bound at the mercy of rate-limiting firewalls (so you'll have to rotate proxies if you intend on using this heavily) on top of the standard CloudFront bot detection recaptcha, and div-obfuscation (a good example of this is Facebook).

Agreed, it's fud - and there are professional botnets on HackerNews to amplify what they want.

What I've noticed is there's little technical discussion, and more so emotional-provoking replies.

Your mistake is the assumption I'm translating it into salary. That $1,000 a day can go towards additional employees (coverage area) and marketing.

Well here's some logic for you. Before entering enterprise tech (8+ years), I managed a finish-construction company warehouse. Being good at web development, I helped a buddy start a locksmith company and have a small portion of equity for doing all his marketing/SEO (since 2012). He makes close to $1mil/year and lives out of a warehouse... Spare me with your "ridiculous piece of your worldview"...

Independent plumbers/local plumbing businesses can easily earn $1,000/day with 2-3 service calls. Not sure how universal healthcare, PTO, immigration, and more pay have to do with this.

Edit: Thank you for all the downvotes for me calling out the weird correlation between tech benefits/politics and plumber skill-shortage + high-reward wages. Your wokeism will forever benefit society.

The problem is Marketing departments are typically ran by boomers who want these things cranked out. Easy goals for them, they're not graded on the performance past open rates.
