An engineer passionate about JS and basic tech freedoms (e.g. right to repair, OSS, net neutrality).

I think the web with all its shortcomings is the best thing to happen to tech industry and I want it to succeed. That does NOT mean it should be used for everything.

I can understand why that happened at least remotely. If you do all those things they refused 'officially', it might be easier for stupid government idiots to paint it as a dangerous illegal tool.

Adding the necessary hardware while refusing to support arbitrarily iLLegAl things is the best of both worlds.

Its not only intimidating, its clunky and error-prone. That's the answer to OP's question, this podman thing does not have good UX story.

exactly

you're stealing from the open internet, the best case punishment you should hope for is that these gains are socialized back

neither is bash or even sh for that matter :) if you have bash, you probably have apk or apt

Then don't use it. Just don't presume to tell me if I can or can't.

Absolutely not, there are plenty of use-cases for them. https://www.npmjs.com/package/patch-package comes to mind off the top of my head.

Hopefully current hysteria will not result in some bs decisions like this.

yees, any second now!

the leap here is browser extensions appearing to block all mentions of ai across the web

and that's a good thing

which would be pretend doing it, make 1000 mistakes then say "you're absolutely right" after you point to it's fuckups

I think at least on windows you can powercycle it quickly a few times until it gives up this behavior. Not sure about Chromebooks.

This thing also helps capture images from stupid crap apps that prohibit screenshots. On my rooted phone with a disable-flag-secure module installed, adb screenshots are still black.

Recording a video via scrcpy works on the other hand. Amazing, agreed.

Yes, it's absolutely the frameworks. That each weigh <100KB. Definitely frameworks :D

Edit:

I don't even know where you lot get these numbers from nowadays, smh.

Just checked, in Slovakia, google.com is 1MB (compressed) total with cache disabled. 400kib of those is my own extension that I installed which is counted among the 'loaded scripts'. Loads in 400ms, blink of an eye.

Framework rants are completely detached from reality, as always.

I checked your page. Wanted to ask, are you using longhorn with k3s for replicated volumes? How beefy a box do you need for that (CPU/MEM/Disk speed)?

I have several VMs in clouds with similar k3s architecture as yours and am wondering if there are any benefits to installing longhorn vs sticking to logical (postgres, mimir, whateveritis) replication instead.

It's simple to use only for toy use cases, that's why nobody uses it. The article everyone in this thread seems to like only goes as far as 'I pushed to git so it must be ok' which is laughable and I'm not even DevOps.

What happens if it errored on deployment or after that? you wanna write custom (bash? :D) hooks for that? What about upgrading your 'very vertically scalable' box? What if it doesn't come up after the upgrade? your downtime is suddenly hours, oops.

The k8s denial is strong and now rivals frontend frameworks denial. Never fails to amuse.

Then you learn podman can't even list containers for all users properly and it kind of starts smelling like the whole ip4 vs ip6 debacle: bunch of vocal proponents wanting you to subject yourself to endless torture for no discernible reason.

> If so, why does it make sense that people can "generate" cash by proving some amount of work done?

Because you need an incentive for 'miners' to participate in transaction processing.

Main functionality is transactions which are not controlled by any single entity (like the government).

Most of it is speculation unfortunately, which gives it a bad name, drowning out real usecases.

It does not much matter if it imports 300 or 30 of them, those vulns will land somewhere in those 30 with equal frequency statistically. If you are advocating developing without dependencies at all, then please start (with any language) and show us all how much you actually ship.

JS is a target of these dumb accusations because it's literally the best cross-platform way to ship apps. Stop inventing issues where there are none.

The above comment is just a bunch of generalizations not meant to address seriously that's why.

Yep. FlipperZero, Android, now some random chinese handheld radio - just some of the things I didn't have to install some crap unsandboxed app to flash in the last 3 months. Absolutely revolutionary.

You simply don't. This quest of saving idiots from themselves is not gaining anyone anything and meanwhile other people get more and more useless restrictions.
