Well, the original post isn't about how particularly efficient ChatGPT is at stripping all of the character and large amounts of information from a perfectly good source. The original post is about railway ballast, and as such, this comment is completely and utterly irrelevant.
Honestly I'm not surprised to hear GM doing something this ridiculous. GM's primary business has been finding new footguns for itself since at least the 1980s; at this point, the only thing going for the company is that their cars are American made (sometimes), and even the beneficial effects of that are debatable at best.
Here’s an interesting and perplexing point about MacOS cursors tangentially related to this article.
Final Cut Pro, Apple’s flagship video editing software, overrides the default MacOS cursor with a nearly identical, but slightly different cursor shape. It’s almost exactly the same as the standard retina MacOS cursor but the little “stem” at the bottom is shorter & points slightly more to the right. I’d expect this from a weird niche bit of open source software, but for one of the Mac’s flagship applications it’s a bit strange. Perhaps someone here could enlighten me to the purpose of this bizarre quirk.
I think this example really illustrates the leaps and bounds made between [Chat]GPT-3 & GPT-4. The first text sounds like some slightly shoddy marketing copy, or perhaps a high schooler's C-minus attempt at a creative writing class, but if you told me that the second text was an extract from a Tolkien novel, I'd probably believe you.
There is an idea bouncing around my brain for a pipe-dream science fiction book I could write, about the rise of the first truly sentient (or sentient-appearing) AI & its effects on the world.
It is beginning to get to the point where I am considering whether I need to actually start writing this book before this "sci-fi" concept becomes a mundane reality.

Not sure whether this is saying that Bandcamp has already established a cooperative stance with the union, or if it's saying that doing so should be Bandcamp's next step. I'm hoping that it's the first option, but otherwise this is definitely a positive development.
I second this. My thing is pottery. I started in January of 2021 and have been doing it ever since. It cost me 50 dollars for a few hour-long courses at a local studio and it has been an absolute godsend. The pure cosmic joy of seeing and feeling something come into existence quite literally in your hands is unparalleled.

Consider that underpaid BIPOC and undocumented immigrants are less likely to be able to own a car and are thus, as pedestrians, more at risk of injury from reckless drivers. Also consider that a $200 fine, while still unfortunate, is a hell of a lot easier to recover from than being hit by 2 tons of SUV at high speed.
