Kite + Mountain froze it for me as well. Refreshing then wiped all progress.

There's already plenty of group think with certain films. More and more very recently released, popular films are shooting up to the highest rated within a few days. Letterboxd should probably account for the recency bias a bit better.

Why is IMAX running a software emulation of hardware from two decades ago?

“The original Quick Turn Reel Units operated on Palm Pilots. In advance of the release of Oppenheimer, IMAX Engineering designed and manufactured an emulator that mimics the look and feel of a Palm Pilot to keep it simple and familiar for IMAX film projectionists,” an IMAX spokesperson told Motherboard.

The article quotes an IMAX spokesperson directly, explaining how and why this was done.

I've been using bat as a cat replacement for a while now. It includes paging, syntax highlighting, line numbers, and is generally very performant.

I doubt it's a technical issue. The current YouTube CEO, Neal Mohan, has made a big push for Shorts. This is almost certainly a business decision.

I recently saw a recommendation for Practical Vim by Drew Neil (https://pragprog.com/titles/dnvim2/practical-vim-second-edit...) in an other vim thread and decided to pick it up. It's been really enlightening and provides more than just reading documentation. It also goes in depth to how the author thinks about vim motions and how to effectively accomplish your goals with them.

I'm an avid user of Tridactyl for Firefox. It does have some issues with complex UIs, but for the most part is very functional. Using many common vim motions for navigation and interacting with links is great, especially when I'm working undocked with my laptop.

I'm a native English speaker and grew up mostly overseas in non-English speaking countries. Subtitles helped me understand American slang and conversational English that I wasn't used to hearing at home. I've also always struggled with distinctly understanding dialogue in films. It never had anything to do with active vs passive viewing. Another reason I always had them on was because I grew up in apartments and was always mindful of my noise levels for my neighbors. Using subtitles let me actively consume the film without worrying about bothering people around me. Now as an adult subtitles are my default for all media when available and I prefer it.

There was an official statement released by a EVGA employee on their company forum https://forums.evga.com/Official-Message-from-EVGA-Managemen...

- EVGA will not carry the next generation graphics cards.

- EVGA will continue to support the existing current generation products.

- EVGA will continue to provide the current generation products.

"EVGA is committed to our customers and will continue to offer sales and support on the current lineup. Also, EVGA would like to say thank you to our great community for the many years of support and enthusiasm for EVGA graphics cards."

Looks like you can still use https://discordmojis.com/ (at least for now) which was always mostly a mirror of Slackmoji.

You might not want to, but not everyone has the luxury of a nice home theater setup. Some people only have access to quality screens and audio at a local theater.

One of my primary preferences for watching movies in a theater is my engagement while watching. When I'm at home, I can too easily become distracted. Setting aside time in my schedule and being in a different environment helps me to focus and appreciate more details.

Also, if you're in a metropolitan area with access to an art-house theater, the types of films shown is often far more eclectic than current blockbusters. They can include showing of rare 35mm/70mm prints, short films from movie festivals, foreign films that tend to get limited releases in the US, re-releases of older classics. There's a lot of content that can be very difficult, even impossible, to find on streaming services. Those types of cinemas also tend to have much more respectful audiences, making the experience enjoyable to everyone there.

One of my local theaters offers film classes which entails showing a series of films, once per week, with group discussions held after the showing. Finding other movie aficionados and getting to engage in discourse is a great way of getting more from a movie watching experience. Not everyone has social groups which want to watch films in the same way. Many of my friends are happy to hang out and watch the latest Marvel release, but generally have no interest in watching anything released from the 70s or earlier.

I have been laughed at by passengers in my car before for using my turn signals when no other cars were around. That really blew my mind the first time. Why anyone would try shaming someone else for adhering to safe driving practices is beyond me.

If you just use them all the time, you don't have to remember to use them in the right situation. That was a concept more than one person I know couldn't understand.

This was in California with other licensed drivers.

Browsers support adjusting font size if that's an issue for you. They also tend to remember your font size of choice per site.

I have no issue using Hacker News on mobile either. There are apps available if you prefer something mobile-centric.

Something that helped me was setting my mouse to a lower DPI and using my elbow and shoulder for movement. A very high DPI encourages tiny movements with the wrist.

This is also a general recommendation for gamers looking to improve their accuracy with FPS style games. Low DPI, larger arm movements provides higher accuracy.
