I have had good success with using xcodegen and only a project.yml checked in. Claude can get tripped up on managing the xcode project xml.

However, before that, i set up a blank project in xcode, used the xcode github integration to create a new repo on github, set up one xcode cloud workflow and use it to push one build to testflight. That way, you get all the automatic config of app ids, profiles etc, and xcode cloud can not be enabled other way. Then tell claude to migrate to xcodegen and to run it in CI automatically.

I've started to develop iOS apps from scratch using only claude code web (no mac), by setting up a "Branch Build" workflow in xcode cloud, and a skill that teaches claude how to check builds and fetch logs.

Along with a workflow that pushes any merge on main to internal TestFlight, the dream of developing iPhone apps on the iPhone finally lives. I've tried most options for this over the years and they never stuck.

These are simple apps that build in 1-5 min on xcode cloud. For larger builds it probably won't work so well.

Congratulations to Tailscale. Imagine how many times you can migrate to a new novel database architecture with that kind of money.

I live in a country where copyright is automatic and inalienable, so I am aware. But what does seize mean in this context?

What is the difference, as far as the MIT License is concerned, between "fork the repos and change the fork" and what Microsoft is doing here? They are not seizing the copyright, if such a thing is even possible.

I like what npm is doing in these cases and I think so do most developers.

Isn't this what people are always praising about linux package managers? That they modify the software in all kinds of ways and take things into their own hands, beyond the developers will?

For GitHub it's maybe not a great look. If there was content in the readme that they felt violated their ToS, fair enough, I guess. They aren't obliged to publish that.

Well I didn't explicitly license my tweets to allow that, so maybe not. But they probably are, anyway.

What's really the difference between "fork the repos and change the fork" and "seize and modify somebody else's IP without permission". It just comes down to the specific reference/name on GitHub and npm. I don't think there are any IP issues involved. I am pretty sure that those platforms have given themselves unlimited rights to do whatever they want with the identifiers inside their platform. You don't "own" a username on social media.

Maybe the worst that could be said is that they are impersonating someone, which might be illegal? IANAL as should be obvious.

I agree, and I‘ve read the opinion too that it‘s a problem people have with DDG. Yet google doesn’t feel excellent at that. Could it be worth competing with google there? I‘m not gonna say it‘s "easy", but maybe worthwhile and possible?

I don‘t think I have used more than 1000 different sites in all development searches ever. It‘s the stack exchange network, github, official documentation, non-github official issue tracking/communities and some high quality blogs. That seems very manageable. You could probably index that into one elasticsearch and one sourcegraph instance. Add a little more specific faceted search, add back powerful and precise query syntax and still maintain "just past in whatever and hit the first result" functionality. I‘m likely underestimating the breadth of other developer needs than my own. I don‘t know.

In terms of unreliable charging, maybe you have already done it but: clean the lightning port. They did it at the apple store for an unrelated repair and all my issues went away. A year later i even went back and had them do only that because I couldn‘t find a good tool to do it myself.

Yeah good point. I want the brightness as well. It's also nice to have a big lever to pull when you need to, by setting an annoyingly low brightness.

There's a lot of unique, very high quality software that only runs on macs:

For designers not on Figma: Sketch, OmniGraffle, Principle, xScope and a fully featured OS color picker and palette manager that works across all apps.

As a developer, I wouldn't want to miss: Paw, Alfred, iA Writer, Monodraw and Kaleidoscope.

A niche favorite that really has no analogues at all: Lumen video synthesizer

Only the design stuff is probably in the "worth getting a Mac for" category though.

It's a bit sad that "8-10 hours" is now great for an Apple laptop. They used to sell a macbook air that had 12 hours listed battery life and could run for like 14. I assume the reason we cannot get that anymore is retina screens?

I downloaded this to see if VoiceOver support is still as broken as it used to be and its surprisingly functional. And it really is fast. I can still "feel" that it‘s not native, but it actually might be close enough.

You should put labels on your image buttons though.
