I guess low contrast text is good design?

Everytime I use Selenium, even for legitimate use cases, I feel dirty deep down under. My soul writhens and I want to do something else in life other than writing Selenium automation - perhaps chop some wood.

I love interactive books but will the links to Circuit lab will still be alive 40 years from now? I can pick up a book from 1860 and still read it with no loss in fidelity or information.

I think interactive books are destined to go to the graveyard. I admire the effort and the medium in every other way - except for aforementioned issue.

What's the point of an open startup? Open source is actually beneficial to the user because they can look at the code, modify it and install the software themselves. It empowers the user.

Open Startups seem like a hipster thing to do in silicon valley with literally no benefit to the user, I don't care how much a company makes. I care about the product and their services. It feels more about marketing themselves as Open Startups than actually providing value of any kind. But yea, let me put some graphs (smoothed lines ofcourse) and put up a big banner that screams "OPEN STARTUP".

I am curious what counterpoints are? What do you guys like Open Startups? For centuries, companies have been closed (in terms of finances) and it has been working fine.

> “just because it resembles 90’s UI?”

I wasn’t talking about mere resemblance. I’m talking about functionality, density of information, layout, hierarchy of importance exemplified by various aspects of the UI, clarity and intent, feedback and signaling, on and on. The whole thing. The only thing that bothered me about SAP was how clunky it felt, simply because it was slow.

I’ll quote myself: “It is dense, extremely clear and consice.”, yep it’s great to use. I also love JMP statistical software UI and Cinema4D UI. They’re a pleasure to use.

That's because contemporary designers are obsessed with trends, frameworks and aesthetics. When Dieter Rams designed Braun products, he didn't have a UI framework. He deeply thought about interaction and feedback to the user.

Contemporary UI trends bother me except one: websites like drewdevault.com and text.npr.com are refreshing.

I love the SAP UI - yea, its the 90's when UI was far superior than today's whitespace filled, shadow-less buttons, complete lack of skeumorphic elements, magenta gradients and huge typography - See Windows 95 UI: https://twitter.com/tuomassalo/status/978717292023500805

It is dense, extremely clear and consice. I agree with the slowness though.

I switched to Sublime Merge from using Git Tower (their licensing was awful after v3).

Never looking back, SM is amazing.

Git Tower folks: Stop pissing off your paying loyal users. Get a hint, I want my money back because you guys never made v2 properly stable and jumped on v3 for an awful cash grab. Fuck you, kindly.

Sublime HQ is an amazing company. I would pay for their products even if they charged double. Honesty and integrity matters. You’re not selling to normal sheep, programmers are a smart bunch.

I feel like we're going through a similar phase as the 50's where all American cars had huge flarings that had no purpose, but they had aesthetic value. This thing is too much style for the sake of style. In some ways, it is cool - use aesthetics to market to masses, change the world - one gas guzzler at a time.

You can't flex "soft power" when all you have is monetary grip of the situation (investments).

Where is tactful diplomacy, cooperation and building mutual rapport when dealing with China?

I can post on Facebook that I disagree with president Trump and he is a liar, try doing the same in China. (Please don't take my comment as a suggestion about President Trump, just trying to make a point).
